“If you’re so good at talking, why don’t you just handle it for him?”
Fiona could tell there was no use arguing, so she turned to Ableson with a gentle call. “Come on, let’s go upstairs and get some sleep.”
Ableson quietly put each chess piece back in its box before following her up the stairs.

Now that the government project was on track, Catherine moved her office back up to the top floor from the seventeenth.
She was just about to start her day when her phone rang. Gavin’s name popped up on the screen.
“Gavin,” she answered.
“Catherine, are you seriously still dodging me?”
Catherine had missed a few meetings with the people from Golden Horizon Enterprises. Sure, she didn’t really want to see Gavin, but honestly, she was just swamped.
“Do you need something? I’m at work,” she said, keeping it businesslike.
Gavin let out a sigh. “Just a heads-up. That Harrell guy? He knows both Lance and Adelina. If you’re thinking about making him your main doctor, you’d better be careful or your pregnancy’s going to get out.”
He’d been so busy he hadn’t kept up with what was happening at the hospital. He’d only just found out that Catherine’s original OB-GYN had resigned, and Harrell had transferred in to take over her case.
“Thanks for telling me. I already switched to a different doctor,” Catherine replied politely.
If she hadn’t bumped into Lance at the hospital that day, she probably would have ended up with Harrell.
Gavin made a teasing sound. “Wow, look at you, thinking ahead. It’s been a few days. Has your belly gotten any bigger? Has anyone noticed?”
He meant well, but there was a hint of mischief in his voice, as if he was enjoying the whole situation.
“Sorry to let you down, but no one’s figured it out yet.”
Catherine was waiting, too.
Waiting for someone to notice.
