The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 199

“What’s so interesting about the warehouse?”

Amanda caught her arm. “Come inside and keep Patty company. She’s been in a mood ever since she got back, barely touches her food.”

Catherine threw one last glance toward the warehouse, but hearing Patty’s name, she turned away.

Because of her illness, Patty stayed in her own room.

She wore a white knit hat and a set of soft pink pajamas, sitting on the bed and staring out the window.

Catherine waved at her from outside.

Patty managed a smile, but it didn’t have that bright, carefree look it used to.

“Patty, you’re home now. Why do you still look so down?”

Catherine sat on the edge of the bed and patted the spot beside her, motioning for Patty to come over.

Patty crawled over and rested her head on Catherine’s lap.

“Catherine, when can I go back to school?”

At the hospital, all Patty wanted was to come home. Now that she was home, all she could think about was going back to school, back to her normal life.

“Soon,” Catherine said, gently stroking her head. She could feel the prickly new hair coming in through the thin knit hat.

Patty’s eyes were dull and empty, like she had lost hope.

“Even if you’re not at school, you still have to keep up with your classes,” Catherine said, trying to sound upbeat. “Your teacher sends you lessons every day, right? Watch them seriously. That way, when you go back, you’ll still be number one.”

Patty nodded. “I do watch them. If you don’t believe me, you can quiz me.”

“Alright, let’s see.”

Catherine asked her a few questions, and Patty answered every one without missing a beat.

Catherine smiled and pulled a handmade hawthorn candy from her pocket. “Here’s a reward. Next time, I’ll check again, and if you’re still doing well, I’ll bring you something else.”

Patty’s eyes brightened a little as she took the candy. “Catherine, are you leaving now? Aren’t you staying for lunch?”

“Not today,” Catherine said with a shake of her head. She was planning to visit Lorinda. It had only been a few days, but she already missed Jasper so much.
