The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 196

Catherine balanced her phone between her shoulder and ear as she flipped through the stack of documents on her desk.

“Alright, you handle the medical bills.”

“Wait, are Lance and Adelina really getting married?”

Ever since Ableson’s birthday party, rumors about Lance and Adelina’s wedding had been everywhere. The gossip just wouldn’t die down.

Lorinda made a noise of disbelief. “Seriously, men are all about the physical. You’re prettier than Adelina, and your figure’s a million times better. Is Lance seriously not even a little tempted?”

She was sure that if you asked ten people, nine would say Catherine was better looking than Adelina. And not just by a little.

“Love is blind,” Catherine said after a pause, her smile tinged with bitterness. “Honestly, I think they’re perfect for each other. I really hope they get married soon.”

She set the documents aside, held her phone properly, and added, “I wish them all the happiness in the world.”

The line went silent.

Lorinda said nothing. She was probably picturing what Catherine looked like as she said those words.

Catherine took a deep breath, picked up a file, and stood. “I should get back to work…”

Standing in the doorway was Lance. He wore a black shirt, his tie hanging loose around his neck, the top buttons undone. There was a hint of stubble along his jaw, and he looked relaxed, almost like he’d just rolled out of bed. It softened that usual sharpness in his eyes.

“I have to go. Talk later,” Catherine whispered, quickly ending the call. She set her phone down. “Lance.”

He stood with his hands in his pockets, a light gray jacket draped over his arm.

Lance narrowed his eyes at her. He could still hear her earlier words echoing in his head.

I think they’re perfect for each other. I really hope they get married soon.

She had looked so calm, like she truly meant what she said.

A weird sense of irritation bubbled up inside him.

“Grab your things. We’ve got a meeting upstairs.”

Catherine had just finished her work and was ready to call it a day, but clearly, that wasn’t happening now.

She collected her stuff and followed him upstairs.
