The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 155

The store’s sign read “Maternity & Baby” in big, bold letters. Standing inside, Catherine looked completely out of place.

Sarah remembered the last time they’d argued. Catherine had reached for her stomach, and the memory instantly made Sarah tense.

“What’s she doing in there?” she muttered.

Adelina, sitting quietly in her wheelchair, looked confused. She hadn’t put the pieces together.

Sarah, on the other hand, was already pushing Adelina toward the store entrance. “Let’s go see for ourselves. I haven’t finished with her yet…”

“Mom, wait.” Adelina grabbed at Sarah’s hand, looking nervous. “What if she tells Lance? What if he gets mad?”

Just the thought made Sarah’s jaw clench. After Belinda talked to Lance, she’d tried to reassure Sarah that Catherine wasn’t a threat to Adelina’s relationship with him. But Belinda had completely glossed over the fact that Lance had hurt Adelina for Catherine’s sake. It was obvious she couldn’t control Lance and was just telling Sarah what she wanted to hear.

Sarah didn’t buy it for a second. Even if she confronted Catherine, what could Lance really do?

“He said he’d marry you. That’s a promise. Are you honestly worried he’ll back out now?”

Adelina felt bitter about it all, but after so many rounds with Catherine, she had to admit she kept coming out second best.

“Once I’m married to Lance and become Mrs. James for real, I’ll have plenty of time to deal with her.” She knew she had to be patient.

Sarah pulled her hand away from the wheelchair. “People like her only go after the weak. If you back off now, she’ll take advantage of it. The next thing you know, she’ll be trying to break you and Lance up.”

“She won’t. Lance told me he’d take care of me, and I believe him.” Adelina didn’t want to listen to Sarah’s warnings.

While the two of them argued, Lorinda came out of the store, pushing a stroller. She stopped by Catherine’s side and slid her arm around her shoulders.

“Mom, look,” Adelina said quickly. “She’s just here with her friend.”
