The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 152

Fiona was relentless, talking Lance’s ear off as she tried to convince him.

In the end, Lance just gave her a noncommittal “I’ll think about it,” and that was the end of that.

Fiona left his office. By the time she stepped out, Catherine was already back at her desk after her meeting.

“Grandma?” Catherine called out as soon as she saw Fiona coming from Lance’s office. She quickly put her paperwork aside and got up to greet her.

“Catherine, my dear.” Fiona’s face lit up with a gentle smile. “Are you tired?”

“Not at all,” Catherine replied, shaking her head. “Is there something you needed here at the office?”

Fiona looked at her and couldn’t hide her joy. “I was just feeling a bit bored at home, so I thought I’d drop by to see you. By the way, have you thought about what I mentioned last time?”

It took Catherine a second to remember. She’d almost forgotten about the whole god-granddaughter idea. The suggestion had been so out of the blue, she’d just assumed Fiona was joking or caught up in the moment. She figured it would just fade away once the topic changed.

But here Fiona was, bringing it up again.

“Grandma, I really can’t,” Catherine said, her voice gentle but firm.

Fiona’s eyes sparkled with mischief as she took a seat at Catherine’s desk. “Honestly, I just want to help you find a good family. With a connection to the James family, your whole status would go up. You wouldn’t just be marrying any rich guy—you’d have your pick of all the top bachelors in Cabinda if you wanted.”

It was true. Even though Catherine had been married before, it was a secret, so no one knew. She was beautiful, talented, and well-liked by the James family. All the influential families would be eager to bring her into their circle.

Catherine knew exactly what Fiona was getting at. She replied quietly, “Grandma, I’m really not thinking about that right now.”

“Okay, we’ll leave it for now.” Fiona smiled, then changed the subject. “But if you run into trouble at work, don’t hesitate to tell me. I’ll always have your back.”

Every word from Fiona was full of warmth, and Catherine couldn’t help but feel comforted deep down.
