“No way.”
The topic changed so fast that Catherine didn’t even have time to catch up. The moment she heard the word “aunt,” she jumped up from her seat like she’d been shocked.
“I know you mean well, but this would just make everything so much messier.”
Fiona could see how against the idea Catherine was. She realized her wild plan was never going to fly.
“All right, all right, just be my god-granddaughter then.”
Sophia tried to smile, but it was obvious she’d much rather not deal with any of these crazy ideas.
“Then that makes you Lance’s sister from now on.”
Fiona narrowed her tired eyes, already working out her next move. She was planning to go to the Main family and talk about Catherine and Gavin. If she could become Catherine’s grandmother, she could finally stand up for her without any secrets.
Sophia saw what Fiona was trying to do and gave her a sneaky thumbs-up.
Meanwhile, Catherine and Lance just stared at each other, their faces frozen. They’d gone from being married on paper to suddenly being siblings. And she was pregnant with Lance’s baby. The whole thing was a disaster.
“That’s not going to work either,” Catherine shot back, her voice firm. “Grandma, you really don’t need to worry. I’ve already handed in my resignation at SilverLeaf. Once I leave, all these problems will go away.”
As long as she stayed away from Lance, Belinda and the Green family would stop treating her like the enemy. No one would ever know about her pregnancy, either.
“Being my granddaughter doesn’t mean you can’t quit your job,” Fiona insisted. There was no way she’d let Catherine keep working herself to death. Besides, she wasn’t even a secretary anymore, just stuck in logistics now.
But all of Fiona’s good intentions just made Catherine feel more pressured.
“Her job isn’t your decision to make,” Lance said, face ice-cold, tone even colder. “If you’re done here, you should go.”
He didn’t mention Fiona’s idea about making Catherine her granddaughter. It wasn’t that he agreed. He was just so against it, he refused to even talk about it.
