The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 120

Adelina had asked for her by name. Of course she had. Catherine remembered what she’d thought yesterday—anything even remotely related to Lance, Adelina would find a way to involve her. If something went wrong, Catherine would take the blame. If things went well, Adelina would be the first to show it off.

“Sir, I’m sorry. I really can’t take this on.” Catherine gave a polite, apologetic nod. “I’m planning to resign. I’ll be leaving at the end of the month.”

The department head’s face changed just a little. It wasn’t the news of Catherine quitting that surprised him. Anyone would want to leave after being demoted from secretary to the logistics team. It was just a matter of time. What really caught him off guard was that Catherine actually dared to go against Adelina.

Maybe Catherine had already made up her mind to leave and just didn’t care anymore. But if she left, Adelina would definitely be upset, and that could easily drag the department head into trouble too.

“Catherine, just finish organizing Lance and Adelina’s engagement first. After that, I’ll approve your resignation right away. Just stay a few more days.” His words sounded firm, but there was a hint of pleading under the surface.

Catherine wasn’t a secretary anymore. Her future was in his hands. She really didn’t have a choice.

“Alright. Thank you.” She kept it simple.

He let out a breath of relief. “The new members for your team have already arrived. You should go meet them.”

Catherine nodded and left the office.

The new Team Sixteen had two people transferred from other groups and two complete newcomers. Catherine recognized one of them: Shirley.

“We’re the main ones in charge of communicating with Adelina,” Shirley said, chin tilted up, attitude full of arrogance. “Catherine, you should start by putting together a budget. Do a few different versions and bring them to me, I’ll look them over.”

Ever since Shirley left SilverLeaf Industries, she’d been spreading rumors about Catherine. Catherine used to think Shirley was just bitter about leaving. Now it was obvious—Adelina had put her up to it.

Whatever it was, Catherine didn’t care how Adelina managed to get Shirley back. She just focused on her own work.
