The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 12

“I’m really sorry, Catherine. I honestly didn’t notice when Lance got back,” Letty said, her voice full of regret.

Catherine didn’t blame her. She’d been so caught up in her own work that she hadn’t checked either.

She took the elevator downstairs. As soon as she stepped out, the doors across the hall slid open and out came the CEO’s private elevator.

“I had the restaurant add a Western menu and brought in a chef from overseas. Try it and see if you like it,” Lance said, his voice calm and smooth. He looked effortlessly sharp in his black suit.

Adelina was next to him, dressed in a pink and white sweater with a black leather skirt, holding on to his arm like she belonged there.

“If this still doesn’t suit my taste, you’ll have to fly out and steal that chef from the place I like,” Adelina teased.

Lance let out a soft sigh. “Whatever you want.”

Adelina’s smile got even brighter as she stepped out of the elevator.

Lance put his hand against the wall, making space for her to go first.

But the second Adelina noticed Catherine standing outside, her smile faded.

“Lance, could I have a few minutes? There’s something I need to talk about,” Catherine asked, keeping her eyes down as she walked up.

She still caught, out of the corner of her eye, how Adelina clung tighter to Lance’s arm.

Lance hesitated, then turned to Adelina. “The food won’t be good if it gets cold. Go ahead. I’ll be right there.”

“Okay, but don’t take too long,” Adelina said, her tone playful but her grip reluctant as she finally let go and walked toward the restaurant.

“Come with me.” Lance’s voice was suddenly much colder. He headed down the hall to the lounge.

Catherine followed him.

Lance lit a cigarette, holding it between his lips while he glanced at his watch.

“Five minutes.”
