The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 117

From across the street, the man’s gaze cut through the night, sharp and impossible to ignore.

“Did you find anything?” He kept his eyes on Catherine but spoke quietly to Aaron in the driver’s seat.

Aaron’s fingers moved fast over his phone. “Not yet. I still don’t know who Catherine came to meet, but it’s definitely not Gavin. I just found out Gavin’s at Nightfall Bar right now.”

Lance gave a quiet, unreadable sound in response.

Aaron paused, looking over. “Do you want me to keep digging? Should I find out who she’s here for?”

Lance finally pulled his eyes away, straightening the collar of his shirt. “No. That’s enough.”

He didn’t care who Catherine was meeting. As long as it wasn’t Gavin, that was all he needed.

Aaron put his phone away and glanced at Lance, hesitant. “So… what now?”

“We go.” Lance’s answer was cool, barely more than a whisper.

Aaron pressed the gas. The Maybach swung around and rolled to a stop right in front of Catherine.

She stood there, barely moving, as the early spring wind swept through the street. The cold cut through her coat, stealing the warmth from her skin. Her eyes turned glassy from the wind as she stared at the man stepping out of the car.

Lance looked like he was made for the night. His features were sharp, every angle defined, and the streetlights threw his tall shadow behind him, making him seem even more unreal.

He stopped in front of her, close enough to block the wind, his eyes as cold and distant as ever.

“Did you—”

“Lance, I want you to treat me like I’m just another employee at SilverLeaf Industries. Someone so forgettable you won’t even remember my name.”

Catherine’s fingers squeezed her bag strap until her knuckles went white, the veins on her hand standing out against her skin.

Lance’s eyes flickered, sharper than before. “Even if I do remember you, you’re just as ordinary as anyone else.”
