“I heard Lara doesn’t come from much. She’s probably just jealous of you. Adelina, you’re the one I trust. You don’t have to worry about anything.”
The Greens were fuming over everything Adelina had been put through. The couple sat together, both looking grim and tense.
Belinda’s words seemed to help a little. Sarah’s face softened.
“Belinda, I really don’t want to bring this up, but no matter how important work is, Lance can’t just ignore Adelina’s feelings. Have you seen what people are saying about her online? Sure, our Green family isn’t as powerful as the James family, but Adelina and Lance grew up together…”
Adelina sat next to Belinda, clutching a pillow tighter and tighter, feeling more wronged by the minute. Tears started rolling down her cheeks. “This has to be Catherine’s fault! Belinda, you have to help me. I never want to see Catherine again!”
Belinda repeated Catherine’s name, her patience gone. “Don’t worry. This time, even if Catherine refuses to leave, I promise she won’t be bothering you anymore.”
Adelina’s tearful eyes suddenly brightened. She sneaked a peek at Belinda, and seeing the serious look on her face, she felt a rush of relief and excitement.
Sarah scooted over, settling on Adelina’s other side. “Adelina, what are you waiting for? Thank Belinda for standing up for you.”
“Thank you, Belinda.” Adelina wiped away her tears right away and wrapped her arm around Belinda’s. “Honestly, Belinda, I can handle a little trouble. I just worry about Catherine. She’s so calculating. I’m afraid she’ll trick Lance.”
Belinda only felt more fond of Adelina in that moment. “Honestly, this is my fault. I never should have let Lance bring her into our family.”
“How could this be your fault?” Adelina hurried to reassure her. “She must have forced Lance to take responsibility until he had no choice but to bring her home. How could you have stopped that? There was nothing you could do…”
Every word seemed to hit exactly where Belinda wanted. Belinda patted her chest, vowing that Catherine wouldn’t bother Adelina again, though she never said what she’d actually do about it.
