"Lady Arianne came to visit and she was asking for your presence, alpha."
I raised my brow as I look at Derrick who was panting heavily in front of my office. I was peacefully seated on my chair, my left hand drumming on my desk while the other was shaking whatever's left on my cocktail. I like drinking alcohol whenever I'm stressed. I was hoping that I could get drunk but as a werewolf, it wouldn't be easy.-
We have high alcohol tolerance and it could take us five bottles of hard liquor to make us feel tipsy and ten bottles to make us feel drunk.
"What does she want?"
"You," Derrick answered with a sarcastic voice.
"Let me guess," I paused as I raised my index finger. "You told her that I was busy since you know how bad my mood is but then she thought that you're lying and started making a scene in the lobby, which made you run all the way to my office without taking the elevator."
He sighed as he stressfully massaged his temple. "Precisely."
I chuckled. Arianne Zecker, also known as Aria, is the only daughter of the current Gamma. Just like what I said, she's pretty, really pretty. I tried to flirt with her, got along with her, because I was forced by my father. He wants Aria to be my luna for who knows why.
The girl became hopeful because of my father's empty promises. When we were young, he kept on pushing that Aria is my mate even though I already told him that I couldn't feel anything special about her. The truth later revealed when Aria turned 18. She found her mate and it was obviously not me.
But then, she rejected him and said that it was only a mistake. She wants to be my luna and father supported her.
"Caidennn!"
My lips formed a grim line when I suddenly heard her high-pitch voice outside my office. Derrick was about to close the door but I told him not to. I counted for more than five seconds in my head and Aria immediately appeared, intentionally bumping Derrick's shoulder.
"You should learn how to respect the alpha as well as the beta, Aria."
"But I have something important to tell you!" She frowned.
"What is it?" I asked after putting the glass of my cocktail back to the desk.
Aria smiled sweetly before giving Derrick a glare. I saw the latter getting irritated but he was kind enough to let it slide.
"Excuse me," Derrick said, leaving my office with a grumpy face. I stifled a laugh when he slams the door hard enough to make Aria flinch. My, that was cruel.
"Make sure that whatever you're going to say is important," I said, my voice coming out colder than intended.
She giggled. "Well, it is important. I also want to see you. It's been weeks and we haven't–"
"Please go straight to the point. I don't want to waste my time listening to your nonsense."
She cleared her throat and nod understandingly. "I'm going to the ball with you."
My eyes quickly went to her. "What the hell are you talking about?"
"I got an invitation from King Reehan saying that I was invited."
"Only the alpha and the luna could attend the ball," I stated.
"Then what's with the invitation?" Aria asked, showing the black envelope that is similar to the one that I received three days ago. I clenched my jaw.
"You're not going anywhere."
Aria gasped in disbelief. "What?!"
"Reehan gave Aria an invitation for the upcoming ball."
"What?!" His lips parted and his eyes widened in shock.
"I'm also confused," I said, throwing the cigarette back to the coffee table. "What does he even know about Aria in the first place?"
Derrick's forehead creased for a moment but after giving it some thought, his facial expression relaxed.
"What are you thinking?"
He gave me a mischievous look and smirked. "His younger sister just turned 18, right? She must be the reason why King Reehan decided to give Aria an invitation."
My brows furrowed in confusion. His younger sister? I don't know much about her and I have never seen her before, but I heard that she's Reehan's only weakness.
"What do you mean?"
He took a deep breath. "If I'm not mistaken, this will be the first time that she's going to get invited and her brother must be thinking that she might experience those love at first sight shit with a werewolf, so in order to avoid this scenario, all of the alpha must go with a luna."
"You gotta be kidding me," I mumbled. Is he really that protective? Well, he must be.
Derrick laughed. "Just try to flirt with his sister to annoy him. I'm sure that you can do it without a sweat, given by your reputation with women."
I quickly turned to Derrick because of what he said. I gave him a glare when I saw him smirking at me. Well, I wouldn't choose him as a beta for no reason. He's a good strategist and he contributed a lot in our pack even before he took the position.
I chuckled as my lips curved into a small grin. "Well, that's a good plan."
