The Alpha Twins' Elusive Mate novel Chapter 4

Harry

As the celebrations die down, I find myself alone, lost in thoughts too muddled for me to understand. There's a war within me, a certain discontentment that makes me even less satisfied now that I have a mate.-

It isn't supposed to feel this way. I should feel complete, whole, and satisfied. But I only feel the opposite.

Even though Alice was more than willing to consummate our mate bond tonight, I ignored the foreign stirring in my loins and searched for some peace and quiet.

Is Alice really my mate? All the signs point to her, and for so long, I'd believed myself to be sexually inactive. The scent that had been around her, although brief, had driven me mad with need. It filled me with a strong need to pin her down and fill her with seed.

I sigh. These thoughts are bringing back memories, and my nether regions stir with arousal once again. A groan makes its way past my lips as I bring my hands to my head.

A rustling catches my attention, and I raise my head to see who it is.

He steps into the tent, face calm and a perfect replica of mine. Sometimes, I feel that he looks more like me than I look like myself.

"Hello, brother," he says to me, and takes a seat by my side.

I nod, turning to face him as he settles down. His body bears more scars than mine, and most of them speak of the times that he had to bear the pain of my errors.

"Did you mark Alice?" He asks, popping open my left over bottle of fruit juice and downing it quickly.

Reluctantly, I nod. "I had little choice in the matter, because something came over me, Harold. Something dark and heavy and—and—"

"Deeply arousing." he says, eyes locked on me. He responds with a questioning look. "I know. I felt it back there too. It was so strong."

I shake my head. "Too strong. I've never felt anything like it." I rise to my feet and start to pace around the room. "And now I can't stop smelling every she-wolf that just happens to be fertile and ready for mating. They're all too young for me."

Harold stands as well and steps forward to comfort me. "What is really the matter brother? I know that there is more to this whole thing than you suddenly getting the senses you've been thinking were dead."

I shake my head. "Something about this doesn't feel right. I feel like I've made a mistake. A terrible one that I'll never be able to fix."

Harold turns me around so that I face him. "If you're bothered about this, we'll fix it together. That's what family is for right?"

I look into his face. For someone forced into hiding at such an early age, Harold turned out far better beyond anyone's expectations. He should have been the Alpha of the Veratis pack, not me. He had far more empathy than I would ever be capable of.

Full of guilt, I find myself sagging into his arms, the only place that I've been able to find some peace since my accident.

"Thank you, brother," I say to him woth my head against his shoulder.

"Harry?" Someone calls from outside the tent. Alice.

Why won't she leave me be?

"Leave!" I tell her with firmness. Before she even leaves, I pull away from her and step to the other side of the tent eager to get some fresh air.

I pick up her poorly hidden irritation. She stomps her foot on the ground once, and then leaves.

Not up to a minute later, Harold slinks back in, face serious. I've seen enough of him to know that what he has sensed can't be anything good.

"It's midnight," he says, breathing heavily. "Someone's released a scent."

The scent flows into me again, far stronger than before. I didn't pick it up immediately because I thought it belonged to Alice, but if it did, why is it even stronger after she left?

And she can't even release her mating scent twice because I'm already mated to her.

Harold looks like he's going to transform any moment from now, same as I. This scent runs deep, calling into our most primal urges, and awakening our Mystical Energy.

The dangerous urge rises within me again, this time quadrupled.

How is this possible? I have already found my mate in Alice—

Harold howls, breaking into my thoughts. His eyes shine, and his body grows even larger than it already is as he shifts into his hybrid form.

"Mate," is all that he says before he rushes out of the tent and into the night.
