The Alpha Twins' Elusive Mate novel Chapter 1

Fiona

"She needs more blood, give her more!" Harry demands, rubbing the arms of his proposed mate, Alice.

I licked my dry lips, too tired to even speak. "But . . ."

Oh no, I can't take it much longer.

Harry's right-hand woman growls from where she stands. "Don't speak back to him, you lowly girl." Her eyes flash, giving me a glimpse of the werewolf lurking beneath.

As the new Alpha of the Veratis pack, Harry had access to all the best warriors the pack had to offer. If he had chosen this woman, I'm sure that her bark will be nothing compared to her bite.

I forced my way in here just to see Harry, but it turns out that he doesn't even seem to know who I am. Even worse, he harbours affection for the woman currently emptying me of my precious, life-saving blood.

How can I ever hope to become the Luna of the Varatis pack with this woman in the way? I could slump and die right now and no one in this pack would give a damn.

I really can't explain why, but I need Harry to actually see me. To look at me and treat me as an equal. To look at me and not treat me like a piece crap on an otherwise clean sidewalk. I'd do anything to gain his acknowledgement, even if it means nearly dying from blood loss.

A mistake I made was rushing into the Veratis pack without having a proper plan. If I had been prepared for this outcome, things would be have turned out like this. Now, I'm nothing more than a lowly wolf here, looked down upon by others even if I am far from that.

Harry only let me stay because I told him that I could save his dear friend, as my blood can heal any ailment or poison. But I fear that once she gets better, Harry will see no further use for me.

The woman sighs and finally lets go of my arm, closing her hers and leaning back into her bed. Harry quickly moves to her side to support her. The care he uses to handle her makes my stomach churn.

I look down at my arm bleeding from the slash across my wrist where the lady had been drinking from. Even after giving her a bag of my blood for transfusion, Harry claimed that it wasn't enough, even if a single drop of my blood was enough to make her better. That was why I had to resort to slitting my own wrist just to help her get better.

"Alice?" Harry says to the lady, gently running a thumb back and forth over her cheek.

She gives a weak moan in response. Colour quickly returns to her cheeks, and her eyes brighten.

The fang-shaped totem on her forehead practically sets her aside as Harry's chosen mate, but is such a thing actually possible? I look over to Harry's own mark, a totem of the same shape and size, only that it seems to face the opposite direction. If both were drawn together, they would form the shape of a crescent moon.

With a sigh and a heart full of disappointment, I walk to the exit of the room, doing my best to stay upright. I have to stay up until I leave. The already view me as weak, I don't need to give them another reason to mock me.

My body seems to think the opposite, however, as it locks up just as my hand closes around the doorknob. My legs can no longer hold me up, and they fold, bringing me crashing to the floor.

A faint ringing sounds in my ears, as darkness decends upon me.

. . .

When my eyes open, I'm surprised to see the face of the last person I expect to see.

His brows are pressed together with worry, and his beautiful lips are pressed down in a grim line.

Harry?
