"Yes, sir." Hawk was a bit surprised. He paused before asking, "Mr. Shawn, do you suspect someone else pushed Miss Vale? Or..."
Truthfully, when Hawk first heard that Victoria had pushed Genevieve down the stairs, he had been shocked. His immediate reaction was that it was impossible.
Although he hadn't interacted with Victoria much, he knew she was the kind of woman who would go out of her way to buy him medicine when she noticed he had a cold, who would brave the rain to scoop up a shivering stray cat and find it shelter and food. How could a woman like that be cruel enough to push someone over a second-floor railing?
But he hadn't been there, and all the evidence pointed to Victoria acting out of jealousy.
If he spoke up for her now, not only would it not help, but it might even backfire.
"It's not clear yet. We'll know more once we find her."
"I'll have someone pull the security footage right away!" With that, Hawk turned to leave.
Elias's eyes were deep with thought. An image of Victoria collapsing into Tobias's arms just as the elevator doors closed flashed in his mind.
His brow furrowed slightly, and he called out to Hawk.
"Mr. Shawn, any other instructions?"
"Find out which room she's in."
She?
Hawk paused for a second, then understood. He asked tentatively, "Mr. Shawn, are you referring to Miss Sanger?"
Elias shot him a cold glare.
"Miss Sanger is in the room right upstairs, number 1208." Hawk felt his scalp tingle. He swallowed and quickly gave the answer, not daring to be coy. He then carefully glanced at Elias's expression from the corner of his eye.
Still impassive.
However, with his years of experience by Mr. Shawn's side, Hawk could sense that this impassivity was masking concern.
He sighed inwardly. Mr. Shawn clearly cares a great deal about his wife, so why is he so unwilling to show it?
"Mr. Shawn, are you going to see Miss..."
Before he could finish the name, the door to the hospital room behind Elias opened, and the doctor came out.
"Mr. Shawn."
Elias nodded in acknowledgment.
"Miss Vale's physical condition is stable. With proper rest and care, she should make a full recovery. However," the attending physician paused, "losing a child is a significant blow for any woman. Miss Vale is currently in low spirits. I recommend having family members stay with her as much as possible during this time to prevent any potential depression."
