"Well... Can't I just guess?" Genevieve's eyes darted around, avoiding Victoria's gaze as she took another two steps back, trying to create distance between them.
Watching Genevieve's guilty demeanor, a suspicion in Victoria's mind felt like it was about to burst forth.
She lunged forward and grabbed Genevieve's wrist, her voice sharp. "Genevieve, the person behind Harry was you, wasn't it?"
"Let go of me!"
"Answer my question, Genevieve!"
Startled by her cold, terrifying gaze, Genevieve gritted her teeth and shoved Victoria away, screaming in a fit of rage, "Yes! It was me! So what? Victoria, you always think you're so clever, don't you? Then how come it took you this long to figure it out?"
Caught off guard, Victoria stumbled back several steps before steadying herself. Hearing Genevieve's confession, she clenched her fists tightly. "Why?!"
Genevieve sneered contemptuously. "Why? Because you're occupying a position that belongs to me! If it weren't for you and Garnett, I would have become Mrs. Shawn two years ago! Both you and Garnett deserve to die! This is what you owe me!"
A sharp 'slap' echoed through the room.
Victoria decisively swung her hand across Genevieve's face.
Unprepared, Genevieve's head snapped to the side, a fiery sting spreading across her right cheek.
"VICTORIA SANGER!" Genevieve shrieked, instantly trying to strike back.
Victoria was ready. She caught her incoming wrist and said coldly, "That first slap was for my father. This next one... is for my own past foolishness in judging your character!"
"Victoria! You dare! I'll tell Elias, and he won't let you get away with this— Ah!"
Before she could finish, Victoria landed a second, unhesitating slap.
The red palm print stood out starkly against Genevieve's fair skin.
"Genevieve, my father owes you nothing, and I certainly don't! You keep saying I broke you and Elias up two years ago, but don't forget, you were the one who chose to abandon him!" Victoria released her. "I'm guessing Elias doesn't know about that, does he? Tell me, what do you think he would feel if he knew his perfect first love abandoned him for her own career? Do you think your dream of becoming Mrs. Shawn would still be possible?"
A flicker of panic crossed Genevieve's face.
"I have a loose tongue, especially when I'm unhappy. I tend to say whatever comes to mind. So—" Victoria drew out the last word, her calm tone laced with a hidden threat, "—next time you plan on doing something, Miss Vale, you'd better consider whether you can handle the consequences!"
"Elias won't believe you!"
"You're welcome to try me."
With that, Victoria pulled open the changing room door and walked out decisively.
Genevieve stood frozen, her face ashen, her clenched fists digging crescent-shaped marks into her palms until they bled faintly.
