The Abandoned Wife Dumped Him First (Victoria and Elias) novel Chapter 72

The next day, in Building Three of Metropolitan General’s inpatient complex...

Unlike the other inpatient buildings, this one housed criminals granted medical parole. Security was tight, with dedicated guards, making it a completely separate entity within the hospital.

Tobias walked Victoria to the entrance of Building Three, took his ID card from his pocket, and handed it to her. "Take this. They'll let you in. Mr. Sanger is in room 503. You can't stay long, though—only half an hour."

"Half an hour is enough. Thank you, Tobias."

Tobias gently ruffled her hair, his eyes full of warmth. "Go on. I'll wait for you out here."

Victoria nodded and turned toward the building's entrance.

Just as Tobias had said, with his ID, Victoria had no trouble getting through.

Soon, she was standing outside the hospital room, looking up at the number '503' on the door.

Before, she had been frantic, desperate to see her father. But now, with only a door between them, hesitation washed over her. Her hand rested on the doorknob, but she couldn't bring herself to open it.

The sound of coughing from inside the room broke her trance, and she snapped back to reality. It was followed by a sharp 'crash'—the sound of something falling and shattering.

"Dad!" Victoria's expression changed. She pushed the door open and rushed inside.

In the room, Garnett had one hand pressed to his chest and the other weakly gripping the water dispenser, his brow furrowed in pain.

Hearing a familiar voice, he turned his head, his face a mask of surprise. "Victoria? What are you doing here?"

Victoria glanced at the puddle of water and shards of glass on the floor, a lump forming in her throat.

Garnett followed her gaze to the mess, forcing a casual tone. "My hand slipped for a second, that’s all. I’m fine."

As if to prove it, he bent down to pick up the pieces.

Seeing this, Victoria rushed forward to support him, her voice slightly hoarse. "Dad, don't move. I'll clean it up."

She helped Garnett to the sofa, then silently began picking up the larger shards and throwing them in the trash. She then used tissues to wipe the floor over and over, continuing even after the spot was dry.

"Victoria, that's enough. It's clean now," Garnett said.

Victoria's lips were a thin line. She ignored him, keeping her head down as she wiped.

Garnett sighed, stood up, walked over, and took the pack of tissues from her hand. "Listen to me. Let's not waste tissues. You didn't come all this way just to scrub my floor, did you? Come on, get up and sit. Talk with me for a bit."
