Victoria looked up in the direction of the voice. Harry, dressed in a silk robe with a prominent beer belly, was descending the stairs, taking a long drag from a cigarette.
"Boss!"
The blond man hurried to Harry's side and pointed at Victoria. "Boss, she's the one looking for you."
Victoria took a few steps forward. "Mr. Brown."
Harry's eyes landed on Victoria, and his expression instantly darkened. With a roar, he viciously kicked the blond man. "This is the beautiful woman you were talking about?!"
"Boss..." The young man was confused. Usually, the boss's eyes lit up whenever he saw a beautiful woman.
"She's the bitch who got me thrown in jail!" Harry's gaze was venomous as he ordered, "You two, throw this little slut out!"
The blond man finally realized the magnitude of his mistake.
This woman was the person his boss had hated for years! And he had just let her walk right in!
"Fuck! What rotten luck! You bitch, you dared to trick me!" The man stood up, wincing in pain. He spat on the floor and lunged for Victoria.
She dodged just as he was about to grab her.
"You fucking whore! You dare to dodge!"
The physical disparity between a man and a woman was already significant, let alone one woman against three men. Victoria knew she couldn't hold them off for long. Seeing Harry about to head back upstairs, she gritted her teeth, rushed forward, and blocked his path with her arms outstretched.
"Mr. Brown!"
Harry raised a hand to shove her away, but Victoria stood her ground, refusing to budge.
"Mr. Brown, I know you hold a grudge against my family, and I know you're the one behind the repeated rejections of my father's medical parole. But his condition is very serious! I came here today to ask you to be merciful."
"Merciful?" Harry's face contorted with rage. "If it weren't for you and your damn brother, I wouldn't have spent six months in that hellhole! Now your old man is dying, and you think a few words will make me let you off? Bah! Not a chance! Get out of my way!"
"What will it take for you to let my father go?"
"Damn it, are you deaf? I said it's impossible! If you say one more word—"
"You're a smart man, Mr. Brown. You know, a lion may grow weak and old, but he is still a lion." Victoria cut through his tirade, her eyes meeting his.
Harry narrowed his eyes. "What's that supposed to mean? Are you threatening me?"
"Whether it's a threat or not depends on whether you're willing to take the gamble, Mr. Brown!"
Victoria slowly lowered her arms, pausing for a moment before continuing. "My father is my brother's and my bottom line. In other words, he's the entire Sanger family's bottom line. The Sangers may not be what they once were, but as long as the Sanger Group stands, we still hold a place among the elite families in this city. If something happens to my father, my brother and I will use everything the Sanger family has to get justice for him! When that happens, are you so sure you'll be able to walk away unscathed?"
Harry stared into her eyes, a flicker of something dark in his own as he weighed the truth of her words.
