Grady didn't answer directly, only saying, "Victoria, don't overthink this. Trust me, I will find a way to get Dad the treatment he needs as soon as possible."
Victoria managed a weak smile and said nothing.
In truth, the moment she asked the question, she already knew the answer.
Why would Elias agree to help?
He was one of the many who wished her father dead. In his eyes, Garnett was nothing but a greedy man who had forced his own daughter on him in a shameless attempt to get his hands on the Shawn family fortune. He deserved to die.
On the drive back to The Imperial Crest Estates, Victoria's mind was consumed by the diagnosis report and Grady's words. She didn't even realize they had arrived until the driver prompted her to get out.
She couldn't let her brother face this alone.
Victoria glanced at the date on her phone.
Tomorrow was the fifteenth, the day of the family dinner. Since Elias wouldn't help, maybe she could ask Old Mr. Shawn...
She went straight to the kitchen, thinking she could bake a cheesecake, the old man's favorite, to bring with her.
Anne suddenly approached her. "Ma'am, the main estate called. They said tomorrow's family dinner has been canceled."
"Canceled?" A sense of dread washed over Victoria. "Did they say why?"
"They said the Old Master has gone abroad for medical treatment."
Old Mr. Shawn went abroad for treatment every year, sometimes for a month, sometimes for three. During that time, he was completely unreachable.
Victoria's heart sank.
"Ma'am, are you alright?" Anne asked, concerned by her pale face.
"I... Anne, I'm a little tired. I'm going to my room. Unless it's important, please don't disturb me. I need to be alone."
Anne nodded immediately.
Victoria went to her room. The moment the door closed, her legs gave out. She slid to the floor, her back against the door, and hugged her knees.
What now... What was she going to do?
If Harry just wanted money, perhaps they could pay him off. But Grady had been the one to send him to prison. With old and new grudges combined, there was no way Harry would let them off easy. He wanted revenge.
And he was acting so boldly because he was certain no one would help the Sanger family.
And now, the one person who could help them, Old Mr. Shawn, was out of reach...
It was all too coincidental, like someone behind the scenes was pulling the strings.
Victoria's eyes stung, and she clenched her fists.
