The Abandoned Wife Dumped Him First (Victoria and Elias) novel Chapter 44

Second floor infusion center.

Victoria walked out of the elevator, lost in thought. She didn't notice the sign right in front of her and was about to walk straight into it.

"Watch out!"

A warm hand grabbed her arm, pulling her to the side.

Startled, Victoria turned and found herself looking into a pair of deep, clear eyes. For a moment, she was stunned.

She felt like she'd seen those eyes before.

Her gaze dropped to the man's name tag on his chest. When she saw the name, a chord of memory was struck. Her eyes widened in disbelief.

"You..."

"Easy there," Tobias Holt said with a smile, letting her go once she was steady. He pulled down his mask. "I'm surprised you recognized me."

"Tobias! Weren't you in the Republic of Meridia? When did you get back? If you're back, does that mean Mr. and Mrs. Holt are back too? Have you seen my brother? He'll be so happy to know you're here..."

Tobias raised an eyebrow, then reached out and playfully pressed his hand on top of her head. He chuckled. "That's a lot of questions. Which one should I answer first?"

Victoria realized she'd been a little overexcited and gave an embarrassed smile.

The Sanger and Holt families had been close since their grandfathers' time, so Tobias and Grady were naturally childhood friends. They were always together, and every time Tobias visited the Sanger estate, he loved to tease little Victoria, coaxing her to call him 'big brother'.

Then, when Victoria was ten, the Holt family suffered a major investment loss. To rebuild, they had to immigrate to the Republic of Meridia. Gradually, the two families lost touch. Later, after Garnett was imprisoned and the Sanger family fell from grace, their connection with the Holts was completely severed.

To Victoria, Tobias was just like another brother, same as Grady.

"I'm back this time with my mentor's research team. I'll be heading back once the project is finished, so my parents didn't come with me," Tobias explained patiently, answering all her questions. He ruffled her hair. "I've only been back a month, and I've been swamped with research and surgeries, so I haven't had a chance to contact your brother yet. I was actually planning to visit the family in a couple of days. I didn't expect to run into you again today."

"Again?"

Tobias nodded, his hands in the pockets of his white coat. He prompted her, "Last Monday morning, by the elevators in the internal medicine ward."

A flash of memory hit Victoria. "I bumped into someone by accident... that was you?"

Tobias looked at her with an amused expression, saying nothing.

"I'm so sorry, I had no idea it was you," Victoria said apologetically. Just then, a sharp pain shot through her lower abdomen. She winced, sucking in a breath.

"What's wrong? Where does it hurt?"

"I..." Victoria clutched her stomach, her face pale. "Cramps."

In just a few moments, a thin layer of cold sweat had beaded on her forehead.
