A vein pulsed on Grady’s temple. He looked at Victoria in the back seat, his expression grim as he gave her two options.
“Either you get out of the car quietly and go back to your room to recover, or I drag you out and carry you back.”
Victoria’s lip trembled, and her eyes instantly reddened. A film of moisture welled up, and she looked like she was about to burst into tears.
Grady’s heart sank. The stern look on his face immediately softened. “Hey, Victoria… don’t cry.”
She looked at him pitifully without a word, her expression clearly saying, ‘If you don’t agree, I’m going to cry right here and now.’
Grady sighed in resignation. “Fine. I’ll take you.”
Her tears instantly turned into a smile. Just as she was about to shower him with praises, Grady leaned into the car. With a stern face, he began laying down some ground rules.
“Once we get to school, you are only allowed to stay in the classroom. No running around, and especially no going into crowded places. I don’t want you to aggravate your sprain by getting bumped into or falling down.”
Victoria’s face fell. She had insisted on going to the graduation ceremony precisely for the excitement. Once the ceremony started, everyone would be in the auditorium. What was the fun of staying in the classroom by herself? Besides, she wanted to see Grady give his speech on stage as the student representative. He would look so incredibly handsome.
Grady keenly caught the look on her face. “If you’re not willing, you can get out of the car right now and go home. Cry if you want. Either way, whether you cry now or cry later because your foot hurts, I’m still going to get a beating from Dad.”
Victoria bit her lower lip. After a moment of thought, she had no choice but to agree. “Fine. I promise. I won’t run around.”
Grady’s gaze scrutinized her pretty face for a moment before he looked away, reluctantly accepting her word.
Victoria secretly breathed a sigh of relief, a faint smile touching her lips. She had promised not to run around, not that she wouldn’t walk around. Once the graduation ceremony began, the classroom would be empty, and Grady would be too busy to watch her. She could just slip out then.
Soon, the car was heading toward Imperial High School.
