"Mr. Sanger! Mr. Sanger, where are you!"
Just then, Mr. Flint's voice called out from a short distance away.
Genevieve's expression faltered. She hadn't expected someone to find them at such a critical moment.
Garnett heard Mr. Flint and gripped the pavilion's railing, summoning all his strength to shout, "Mr. Flint!"
Mr. Flint, who had been searching in circles, immediately looked toward the pavilion.
Trees partially obscured the view, and at first, he'd thought it was empty. But now, seeing Garnett swaying unsteadily, his face paled, and he rushed over.
Seeing him approach, Genevieve gritted her teeth. She had to change her plan. The hand that was about to push him instead moved to support him, guiding him toward the pavilion steps. A second before Mr. Flint arrived, she said with a look of concern,
"Mr. Sanger, are you all right?"
Then, she let go.
Thump!
Garnett lost his support, missed a step, and pitched forward, tumbling heavily to the ground. His forehead struck the edge of a step, instantly breaking the skin and drawing blood.
"Mr. Sanger!"
"Mr. Sanger!"
Mr. Flint and Genevieve cried out almost simultaneously.
Crimson blood trickled down from his forehead, quickly blurring half his face. Garnett's vision went dark, and he couldn't breathe.
Mr. Flint held him, shouting, "Is anyone there? Help!" while fumbling for his phone with a trembling hand.
Suddenly, Garnett raised a hand and pressed it on Mr. Flint's wrist. His pale lips moved, but no sound came out.
"Mr. Sanger, what are you saying?" Mr. Flint leaned closer, trying to hear him.
Genevieve noticed and her gaze darkened. This old fool was tougher than she thought, still trying to expose her even now.
Not a chance.
Genevieve suddenly raised her voice, interrupting Mr. Flint. "Mr. Flint, someone's coming!"
Victoria took a moment to compose herself. It was almost noon. By this time, her father would usually be done with his treatment, playing chess with Mr. Flint in the living room.
At that thought, she picked up the blanket and walked out of the bedroom. "Dad…"
The living room was empty. Her father was nowhere in sight.
Victoria frowned and checked the bathroom and the guest room, but he wasn't there either.
Strange, where could he be?
She remembered that a couple of days ago, Garnett had seen the sun melting the snow and mentioned wanting to walk in the garden. At the time, she hadn't agreed, considering his condition wasn't fully stable and it was still cold.
Could he have gone to the garden with Mr. Flint?
Victoria grabbed her coat and left the suite, intending to look for him.
But as she opened the door, she saw Mr. Flint standing there, his face ashen. When he saw her, his old eyes reddened.
"Miss Victoria, Mr. Sanger… something's happened to him."
