The Abandoned Wife Dumped Him First (Victoria and Elias) novel Chapter 297

Victoria froze for a moment, then subconsciously placed a hand on her abdomen.

Ever since returning from the hospital a few days ago, she had started feeling much sleepier than usual.

She had gone to bed early last night and slept soundly, yet she still woke up feeling drained. She couldn't even get through a single game of chess without falling asleep.

“A colleague from my old design firm sent over a project brief, asking if I was interested in some freelance work. I didn't want to be rude, so I took a look, and I guess I just lost track of time,” Victoria said, making up a quick lie.

Grant didn't seem to suspect anything. “That reminds me of your colleague. What was her name?”

“Sunny.”

“Right, Sunny. Since I’m leaving tomorrow, why don’t you ask her if she’s free to join us for dinner tonight?” Grant suggested. “I found that girl quite interesting. In terms of architectural design, her talent may not match yours, but she has a good intuition. If she’s willing to work at it, she could become a fine designer one day.”

“If she heard you praise her like that, she’d be too excited to sleep,” Victoria said with a smile. She immediately took out her phone to message Sunny. She hadn't seen her since the awards ceremony, when she had suddenly been hit with debilitating menstrual cramps.

After sending the message and closing the chat window, several unread notifications popped up.

She had been so groggy these past few days that she hadn't paid any attention to her messages. Tapping on the app, she realized her mysterious neighbor—the woman who had lost her child—had sent her several texts.

She opened the conversation. They had all been sent late at night, and the content was simple: just the words ‘Good night.’

She suddenly remembered seeing a message from her neighbor one morning and meaning to reply, but Elias’s high fever had driven it completely from her mind.

Victoria’s finger slid up the screen, reading each ‘Good night’ message.

After a long moment, she had an idea. She opened her phone’s camera and took a picture of Dawn, who was napping in the sun with her paws tucked under her chest. She then forwarded it to the neighbor with the plain white profile picture.

Worried Dawn would get bored at home, she had brought the cat with her to Mr. Rhodes’s house that morning.

“Meow~” Dawn seemed to sense her taking the picture, lazily opening her jewel-like eyes and letting out a soft cry.
