“No, that’s not it, it’s not like that!”
Genevieve then pointed a trembling finger at Victoria. “It’s you, Victoria! You deserved all of this! You’re the one who pushed me to become like this!”
Victoria’s eyes turned icy at the accusation. The absurdity of it was almost laughable.
After a moment of silence, she spoke, her voice calm and steady.
“In our first year of high school, when you were cornered by those thugs from off-campus, it was me and Cerys Thorne who fought them off with sticks. After that, we took you home to the Vale family every single day because we were afraid you’d get bullied again.”
“The summer after our senior year, you said the Vales’ biological daughter accidentally fell at home, and Mr. and Mrs. Vale took their anger out on you. They beat you and locked you in a dark closet. When I found out, I ran to the Vale estate in the middle of the night, got into a huge fight with them, pried the door open, and dragged you to the hospital.”
“You said you’d never traveled abroad, so Cerys and I took you on a trip.”
“You said you’d never eaten at a fancy restaurant, so I begged my brother to take us to one.”
“You said you didn’t have any nice dresses and that you envied mine, so I opened up my closet and let you take your pick. Anything you liked, I gave to you, even the things I was reluctant to part with.”
“Later, when you got into Imperial University, you came to me crying, saying the Vales wouldn’t let you go and were trying to force you to marry some sixty-year-old man. I took Cerys, went to the Vale estate to get you, and promised that I would cover all of your expenses throughout college…”
“Genevieve, you say I pushed you to this? Let me ask you, with all of these things, one after another, when did I ever push you!”
Genevieve’s face was deathly pale. Her legs gave out, and she collapsed to the floor with a thud.
