The room was filled with a chaotic, sensual energy.
The morning sun slipped through a gap in the curtains, casting a dappled sliver of light across the edge of the bed.
Beneath the corner of a pale silk comforter, his long, well-defined fingers were intertwined with her soft hand.
Elias held Victoria, his gaze fixed on her sleeping face.
Her eyes were still shadowed with the flush of passion, and tears still clung to her lashes as they trembled, making her look heartbreakingly vulnerable.
Elias's eyes darkened.
He knew, of course, that she hadn't really wanted to be with him. She had used this extreme method to distract herself, to escape her pain.
He hated being used more than anything.
But yesterday, even knowing he was being used by Victoria, he had done it willingly. His self-control had shattered completely when it came to her.
He raised a hand, wanting to wipe the moisture from the corner of her eye.
In her sleep, Victoria felt the coolness of his fingertips. She turned her head, burying her face in his chest and murmuring unconsciously, "Elias, no, I can't take any more..."
Victoria was completely bare, and the movement revealed a tantalizing glimpse of her skin.
His marks, some dark, some faint, were scattered across her fair, delicate skin in stark contrast.
To Elias's deep, unreadable eyes, it was a silent invitation.
Heat began to coil in his gut again.
From yesterday afternoon until three or four in the morning, they had moved from the living room sofa to the bedroom, nearly frantic, without restraint.
Victoria had met his advances with a raw, inexperienced passion, letting him do as he pleased, never giving herself a moment to breathe until she collapsed from sheer exhaustion.
He didn't want to hurt her.
Elias swallowed hard. After a long moment, he managed to suppress the urge to take her again. He leaned down and placed a soft kiss on her forehead, his voice a low, soothing rumble.
"Yes. Go to sleep."

It was already dusk when Victoria woke up.
