She didn't understand what he was so angry about.
Because she was pushing him toward Genevieve?
But wasn't that what he had always wanted? For those two years, wasn't Genevieve all he could think about? Now that she was out of the picture, shouldn't he be happy about it?
Seeing the genuine confusion in her eyes, Elias clenched his jaw. "Victoria, my relationship with her isn't what you think it is."
Not what she thought? Then what was it?
Was it leaving her on the side of a mountain, forcing her to walk home in the rain right after her miscarriage, all for Genevieve?
Or was it publicly humiliating her for Genevieve's sake, telling her to jump from the seventy-seventh floor and driving The Sanger Group to the brink of collapse?
Whatever it was, she didn't care anymore.
"Well..." Victoria opened her mouth, intending to say that if that was the case, he could go wherever he wanted.
But before she could finish, Elias started coughing again. He swayed, stumbling forward, his eyes threatening to close.
Victoria's eyes widened. She shot forward and grabbed him, steadying him.
The moment her hand touched his arm, an alarming heat radiated through his shirt, burning her palm.
"Elias, you're running a fever again?" she asked, not having time to think as she raised a hand to feel his forehead.
"I'm fine." Elias caught her wrist. "I took the medicine. It'll go down later. Cough... cough..."
Victoria's jaw tightened. She looked at his pale, exhausted face. He looked like he could collapse at any second. He wouldn't even make it to the office; he'd end up in the hospital halfway there.
She was torn.
After a long moment, when she still hadn't spoken, Elias pulled his hand back, forcing himself to stand straight. "I should go."
With that, he started to walk past her.
