"Tamara, NOOO!"

Victoria woke with a start, her eyes flying open.

The first thing she saw was a white ceiling. The faint, lingering smell of antiseptic hung in the air.

"You're awake, Ms. Sanger." A nurse pushed open the door and smiled as she saw Victoria sitting up. "Here, let me take a look at the bruise on your forehead."

Victoria felt as though her mind was still trapped in the dream.

After a moment, her vision cleared, and she suddenly realized she was lying in a hospital bed.

She instinctively looked around. Besides herself and the nurse checking on her, the room was empty.

"It's not a big deal, just a little swollen. When you get home, you can put a warm compress on it, and it should go down," the nurse said, gently touching Victoria's forehead.

Victoria winced slightly and covered the spot with her hand as she got out of bed. "Nurse, where's the patient who was in this room?"

She glanced back at the empty bed, a small frown forming between her brows.

She clearly remembered being on the bench outside the room last night. How did she end up in this bed? Could she have been sleeping so soundly that she hadn't felt a thing?

"Oh, don't worry, Ms. Sanger. The doctor ordered an MRI for him. Mr. Shawn just went for the scan," the nurse replied.

Victoria's lashes fluttered. She pressed her lips together. "I'm not worried about him."

The nurse paused for a second, then smiled knowingly.

Earlier that morning when she had come to deliver medication, she had accidentally seen Mr. Shawn holding Victoria as they slept. Anyone could see how affectionate they were. Hearing Victoria deny her concern now, she simply took it as a bit of a lovers' quarrel.

Victoria met the nurse's "I get it" expression and realized her words had probably been taken as a joke.

She didn't dwell on it. Looking at her phone, which had died, she thought of Sunny, whom she'd left back at her apartment, and made a decision.

"Nurse, what floor is the MRI on?"
