The Abandoned Wife Dumped Him First (Victoria and Elias) novel Chapter 220

Elias fell silent.

At the same moment, his phone vibrated. A new message from Victoria had arrived:

[I'm very sorry, but a few days ago, due to my negligence, my cat chewed up the men's leather shoes you left on your shoe rack.]

[I had someone look for them, but we couldn't find an identical pair.]

[As a last resort, I had to contact you this way to discuss compensation.]

Lucian, still waiting for an answer, stood up to leave.

Elias stared at Victoria's cartoon cat profile picture on his screen. He called out to Lucian, his voice low.

"I'm not sure."

"I don't know if I'm in love with her."

Lucian stopped. It was the first time he had ever seen Elias look so lost, and for a moment, he didn't know what to say.

Elias turned his phone face down on the bar, not replying to Victoria's message.

"That night in Rivertown, when I saw her waiting nervously by the door… I don't know what came over me, but I suddenly wanted to kiss her."

"Later, I was covered in those bastards' blood. I knew she wanted to come out, but for some reason, I was worried about her seeing me like that. I didn't want to see fear in her eyes, so I held the door shut."

"In the middle of the night, I knew she was asleep, but I couldn't stop myself from going in to check on her. When I saw her curled up in the corner, I had this urge to pick her up and hold her."

"After we left Rivertown, Hawk told me she had run into a burning building to save someone. For a split second, my mind went completely blank, followed by this intense fear. It didn't go away until I had confirmed over and over that she was okay."

Elias's brow was tightly furrowed. He paused, then repeated, "I'm not sure if that counts as love."

This time, it was Lucian who was silent.

Victoria waited for a reply to her message about compensation until she fell asleep, but nothing came.

The next morning, the sky was still dark.

The end-of-year temperatures were dropping daily.

Victoria, dressed in a thin white down jacket, could see her breath in the cold air.

She drove Cerys to the airport.

By the time Cerys was about to board, the sky had fully brightened.

"Victoria, it's a sunrise!" Cerys said with delight, turning to look at the large floor-to-ceiling windows of the waiting area.

Victoria followed her gaze.

The morning sun cast a bright yellow light that streamed through the glass. It wasn't harsh, just pleasantly warm.

"Victoria, when I get back, let's go hiking and watch the sunrise, okay?" The boarding announcement sounded overhead. Cerys turned back to Victoria and asked.

Victoria didn't hesitate. "Okay."
