The Abandoned Wife Dumped Him First (Victoria and Elias) novel Chapter 191

There’s medicine for a cough and an umbrella for the rain. Victoria had just gotten home after a few drinks, and just like that, hangover medicine appeared at her door.

The timing was a little too perfect.

Cerys narrowed her eyes, finding the nearly bald Manager Waldron more suspicious by the second. "How did you know Victoria had been drinking? Don't tell me you..."

Manager Waldron felt a pang of guilt under their scrutiny. Realizing they had misunderstood, he quickly tried to explain.

"No, no, that's not it. I wasn't following Miss Sanger."

"Protesting a bit too much, don't you think? I never said you were following Victoria, so why are you in such a hurry to deny it?"

Already on shaky ground, Manager Waldron felt completely flustered by Cerys's questioning. He felt a wave of helplessness, as if he couldn't possibly defend himself. He turned to Victoria. "Miss Sanger, I really wasn't. I don't look like a stalker, do I? I... I..."

Victoria knew, of course, that Manager Waldron wouldn't do something like that. She also knew Cerys was just being protective. She gently pulled Cerys behind her and said calmly, "Manager Waldron, don't worry. Just tell us what happened, slowly."

Manager Waldron swallowed hard, took a moment, and then explained, "Actually, the resident across the hall from you asked management to prepare this hangover medicine."

Victoria was slightly taken aback. "My neighbor?"

Seeing that Victoria seemed to believe him, Manager Waldron seized the opportunity and nodded. "Yes. She called us a little while ago. She said she saw you on her way in and thought you might have been drinking. She was worried, you being a young woman living alone and probably not keeping hangover medicine at home, so she asked us to buy some and bring it over."

As he spoke, Manager Waldron held the medicine out to Victoria.

The price tag was still on the box, and unmelted snow clung to his coat, proving that he had indeed just run out to buy it.

Suddenly, she remembered what Sunny had said a few days ago.

"Manager Waldron, does the owner of the apartment across from me have any children?" she asked.

Manager Waldron instinctively shook his head, but when he caught Victoria's subtle frown, his heart skipped a beat. He quickly nodded and corrected himself, "Yes, they do."

Cerys was skeptical. "First you shake your head, then you nod. So, is it a yes or a no?"

"She has a daughter," Manager Waldron said, his heart pounding. He quickly fabricated a story to cover himself. "But she passed away in an accident a few years ago. If I remember correctly, she was about the same age as you two. It's... it's a sad story. To make all that money, but your own child never gets to enjoy it. A parent burying their child..."

Cerys listened, feeling that something was off. "How do you know so much about it?"

He was damned if he knew and damned if he didn't!

Manager Waldron was screaming internally but maintained a look of sympathy. "One of my colleagues knows a relative of her family. I just happened to overhear them talking about it one day."

"You're quite the gossip, then," Cerys commented dryly.
