The Abandoned Wife Dumped Him First (Victoria and Elias) novel Chapter 162

Although Chuck repeatedly said it was nothing serious, Victoria was still worried and offered to visit Old Mr. Shawn in the hospital.

To her surprise, both Old Mr. Shawn and Chuck refused in unison, using the flimsy excuse that they were worried about getting her sick.

Victoria had no choice but to relent, asking Chuck to take good care of the old man.

"Meow~" After finishing his food, Dawn stretched lazily, interrupting Victoria's thoughts.

She snapped back to the present and checked the time. She had a meeting with Felice Donald at a client's office this morning and needed to get to her own office early.

With that in mind, Victoria bent down to stroke Dawn's head and whispered, "You be good at home, okay, Dawn?"

"Meow!"

Shortly after, Victoria grabbed her bag and car keys and walked out the door.

The moment she opened it, she glanced up and saw a doormat in front of the apartment directly opposite hers. On top of a shoe cabinet were two pairs of men's leather shoes.

Had someone moved in across the hall?

Victoria suddenly remembered hearing the faint sounds of moving furniture in the middle of the night. She had thought it was just her imagination, but now it seemed her new neighbor had been moving in.

Her gaze fell on the leather shoes on the cabinet. A strange sense of familiarity made her look at them a few moments longer.

*Ding!* The elevator arrived.

Victoria pulled her gaze away, turned, and stepped into the elevator, heading down to the underground garage.

The rain outside was a steady drizzle. A few sections of the garage ceiling were made of tempered glass, and the raindrops hitting them created a soft, crisp sound.

Victoria found her car with ease, pressed the accelerator, and started the engine.

The engine let out a strange, low whine before sputtering out without warning.

Victoria paused, then tried to start it again, but the result was the same.

Something was wrong with her car.

Frowning, she got out and walked around it, trying to see if she could spot the problem.

Unfortunately, she couldn't.

The car had been working fine just a few days ago. Why would it suddenly break down? Puzzled, Victoria took out her phone to call for a car.

[Please be patient. You are number 107 in the queue...]

Victoria's eye twitched.

On a rainy day, the demand for ride-shares had spiked because of the rain. If she just waited for a car to arrive, she wouldn't make it to the Design Institute all morning.

After a moment's thought, Victoria decided to start walking toward the institute and figure something out on the way.

She grabbed an umbrella from her car and headed for the garage exit.

At the same time, not far behind her BMW Mini, a Maybach was parked.

"Mr. Shawn, it looks like Miss Sanger's car broke down," Hawk said from the driver's seat, glancing at the man in the back through the rearview mirror.

Elias remained silent, his eyes closed. He was a bit of a neat freak and couldn't sleep well in unfamiliar beds. He'd spent a restless night at the new apartment, and his temples had been throbbing since morning.
