That night, Grady sent over the intern lists for The Sanger Group from the past five years.
Victoria stared at the search results on her computer screen, her lips pressed into a thin line. She ran the search again, refusing to give up.
But no matter how many times she tried, the result was the same—
[No entries found for 'Genevieve Vale.’]
Victoria pressed her fingers firmly against her throbbing temples.
"Here, drink some honey water." Cerys Thorne set a glass down and glanced at the screen. "Victoria, do you think Genevieve interned at The Sanger Group?"
The honeyed tea was warm.
Victoria picked up the glass, and a gentle warmth spread through her cold fingertips as they touched the side.
"I'm not sure. I just could never figure out how Genevieve got involved with my father," Victoria said, her gaze heavy. "It wasn't until I saw my brother today and heard one of the interns mention it that I learned The Sanger Group has an annual intern program with Imperial University."
"So, I started wondering if Genevieve might have been an intern there. If I can confirm that, I can find out what she did during her internship. Maybe then I'll understand the real reason she wants my father dead."
But Genevieve's name wasn't on the list.
Which meant her theory was likely wrong.
"You know, this list might not be complete."
Victoria looked up at her.
Cerys explained, "Interns aren't full-time employees. When you have a lot of them, it's easy for registration to get delayed or missed. I've heard stories from upperclassmen about companies forgetting to register them properly."
"The Sanger Group is huge, with tens of thousands of employees. People are hired and fired every day. The HR department is small, and interns aren't their top priority. It's possible they made a mistake."
Hearing this, Victoria turned back to the list. An idea struck her, and she grabbed the mouse to check the file's modification history.
"My father was always strict about record-keeping. The kind of oversight you're describing is unlikely to happen under his watch."
