The Abandoned Wife Dumped Him First (Victoria and Elias) novel Chapter 100

"So you suspect that Genevieve's elaborate scheme wasn't simply out of jealousy? That there was another reason?" After listening, Grady looked at Victoria with a grave expression.

Victoria didn't speak, but her silence was an answer in itself.

So much had happened recently that she hadn't had much time to think carefully about what Genevieve had said that night.

It was only in the past few days, when she finally had some downtime, that she found herself replaying the memory. The more she thought about it, the more she felt that Genevieve's motive for targeting their father didn't add up.

If it was really as Genevieve claimed—that she resented Garnett for using a debt of gratitude to force a marriage, preventing her from being with Elias—then she could have simply refused two years ago.

Moreover, when Genevieve was saying those things, there was a panic in her eyes, as if she were desperately trying to conceal another secret.

"Have you talked to Dad about these suspicions?" Grady asked.

"When Dad was first released on medical parole, I mentioned a little of it to him. But at that time, I didn't know the person behind it was Genevieve. Dad thought about it for a long time but couldn't figure out who it could be, let alone what their motive was," Victoria said, her lips tightening.

She had planned to find another opportunity to see Garnett, hoping he might know Genevieve's true motive. But recently, an escape attempt by another inmate on medical parole had led to tightened security. Even with Tobias's credentials, unauthorized visits were impossible.

If she got caught, she could handle the fallout for herself—but dragging Tobias down with her was out of the question.

So, for now, the best approach was to see if she could find any clues from Grady's side.

Grady pondered for a moment, then shook his head. "My memory of Genevieve is faint. I only remember that she used to be your friend. Logically, as your friend, any resentment she had should be directed at you. Why would it have anything to do with Dad?"

That was exactly what Victoria couldn't understand.

Genevieve's target wasn't her; it was Garnett.

A knock sounded at the door.

The secretary entered. "Mr. Sanger, Miss Sanger, it's almost lunchtime. Should I order something?"

Victoria glanced at the time on her phone and stood up. "No, that's alright. I still have a report to finish at the Design Institute. I need to get back to submit it, so I won't stay for lunch."

"No matter how busy you are with work, you still have to eat. Lunch won't take you that long." Grady placed a hand on her shoulder, guiding her back to her seat. He turned to his secretary, "Don't bother ordering from outside. Just go to the cafeteria and bring up two meals."

"Yes, Mr. Sanger."

Victoria pulled Grady's hand away, opening her mouth to protest again.

"Work is work, but you're a living person. Not working won't kill you, but not eating will." Grady's fingertip tapped her forehead. "What? Have you forgotten your own words? Be good. Just consider it a favor to me. Designer Sanger, will you keep this lonely old man company for a nice meal?"

Victoria looked at Grady, slightly taken aback.
