r 253 Backed Into a Corner
The middle–aged woman grabbed Seraphina’s arm just as she was about to leave, surprising her. Preoccupied with Sebastian’s pressing issue, Seraphina paused just long enough for the woman to get a firm grip.
“You’re not going anywhere until this is resolved,” the woman snapped, her voice filled with indignation.
Seraphina scowled. “Let go of me.”
Instead of releasing her, the woman turned toward the parking lot and yelled, “Hey, everyone! Come take a look! These people hit someone and are trying to run off!”
The commotion drew a small crowd of bystanders eager to witness the drama.
Seraphina was growing impatient. She seized the woman’s hand, squeezed firmly, and made her release it with a yelp of pain. Turning to depart, she found three young men blocking her
way.
“You’re not leaving,” one of them stated, his tone calm but firm.
Seraphina ignored him and tried to escape, but the middle–aged woman wasn’t done yet. “She attacks me! Don’t let her get away!”
Seraphina glanced at the four people obstructing her way. Something about their stance and demeanor screamed authority. They weren’t just random people–they moved with the precision and confidence of skilled operatives, likely from a specialized military unit.
She knew better than to start a fight she couldn’t win. Even with Shane backing her up, they’d stand no chance against these men–she was a street brawler at best, while these guys were clearly trained professionals.
She took a deep breath and spoke evenly, “This couple is running a scam. I have an emergency to deal with–lives are on the line. Someone else can handle this nonsense, but I need to go.”
The woman was quick to respond, pointing accusingly. “You can’t just walk away! You’re the driver. You caused all this. If anyone leaves, it’s not going to be you!”
Seraphina sighed, suppressing her frustration. “Fine. I’ll stay. Shane, you go.”
The mention of Shane’s name caused the men’s expressions to shift as if they recognized him slightly.
Shane turned to leave, but the men blocked his path.

“What’s the problem now?” Seraphina asked, her voice colder, her eyes narrowing as she stared
them down.
“You both aren’t going anywhere,” one of them replied bluntly.
Shane’s patience finally wore thin. He faced the middle–aged woman, speaking sharply. “I’ve already given you 10,000. I’ll send the remaining 40,000. Take it, and let this end.”
The woman’s eyes gleamed with greed, but she quickly shook her head. “No way! I’ve heard that transfers can be undone within 24 hours. If you cancel, how are we going to find you?”
Shane clenched his jaw. “What do you want, then?”
“Cash. All of it in cash,” she demanded.
“Fine. Let’s go to the bank. You can come with me while I withdraw the money,” Shane replied curtly.
Yet, the woman wasn’t willing to take that risk. “No chance. You might pull something on the

way.
To ensure Shane didn’t escape, she even instructed the young men to escort him to the bank. In the meantime, the other two remained behind to watch over Seraphina and make sure she didn’t slip away.
The woman thought she’d covered every angle, but her overconfidence would eventually backfire.
Before heading off, Shane turned to Seraphina. “Don’t worry. I’ve sent someone to handle the situation. If Ryan’s people lay a finger on him, they’ll regret it.”
Seraphina nodded, though the knot in her chest remained tight.
Left behind, Seraphina stood with the remaining men, tension building with every passing second. Anxiety clawed at her, her heart pounding as her thoughts spiraled. Despite Shane’s reassurances, she couldn’t shake the uneasy feeling that time was running out—and lives were hanging in the balance.
