Meanwhile, Sabrina had her cell phone turned off as she was told by Zayn. Right after she got off the phone with Marcus the first time, she ran to a phone booth nearby and called 911 for emergency. The ambulance arrived in no time and Zayn regained consciousness shortly after he was carried into the ambulance.
He took one look at Sabrina who was sobbing frantically and said, "Sabrina, don't cry. Don't beat yourself up over this, I will live."
Sabrina nodded in response. "Zayn, thank you for risking your life to come save me. I received a call from Master Shaw just now, he said that...Sebastian Ford is looking everywhere for us. I had destroyed his wedding and he will never let me off the hook for that. That truck might not have hit me, but there are billions of ways he could think of to have me killed if h e wants to. Thank you, Zayn, and sorry for dragging you into this..."
"Wait, what did you say?" Zayn scowled. "Marcus called?"
Sabrina nodded again. "Why?"
"Switch your phone off, right now! Do not answer any calls from this moment onwards. We have to leave all that has happened in the South City behind us, do you understand? We are to cut all ties with everyone in the South City! Switch it off!" Zayn urged hurriedly, his
voice weak.
"But..." Tears streamed down Sabrina's cheeks. "But... your parents..."
"Relax." Zayn consoled her with a weak smile. "I know Sebastian Ford. He might be merciless but he would never vent his anger out on the innocent. My parents were not the ones that had wronged him. Besides, they actually helped both Sebastian and Aunt Grace out when they hit rock-bottom. It was precisely because we once helped them that Benjamin Ford decided to crack down on us. The Smith Family wouldn't have fallen otherwise. That's why I'm certain that Sebastian won't harm my parents." 1
It took almost every last bit of strength within Zayn to explain. He was still running a high fever and his left arm that was injured was beginning to turn a dark purple bruise. Though he was no longer bleeding, his arm was swollen like a gigantic loaf of bread with the cut infected severely. 1
"Stop talking, Zayn, you need to focus on getting better for now," Sabrina said.
"Zayn, I..." Tears welled up in Sabrina's eyes at his words. "I don't even know you that well, why are you being so kind to me?"
"Are you afraid? Afraid that I am toying with you, just like Nigel did?" Zayn chuckled.
Sabrina could not deny that a part of her was wary.
Zayn sighed and said, "Well, you should be afraid. But I'm not toying with you. I saw with my own eyes just how attentive you were as you were tending to Sebastian Ford's mother in the past two months. That kind of affection cannot be faked. I also saw how hardworking you were at the Designing firm, and how devoted you were at the construction site, no matter how hard the tasks were. Most importantly, I saw the way you put yourself out there to repay what little Nigel had done for you. Nigel should consider himself the luckiest man in the world for knowing you. He just didn't know better and tossed you aside. He is just a man who had no idea how lucky he was."
Sabrina did not know how to respond. She remained quiet for a few moments before finally saying, "To tell you the truth, I was not in love with Nigel. I knew that he was just toying with me the entire time. The reason I was so sincere with him was just because he was the only person around me that had shown me some sort o f hope, and I wanted to treat him well for that."
