Sabrina did not switch off her phone on purpose. Her phone had run out of battery.
At that moment, she lay curled up on her mother's sofa, crying wordlessly. She had no idea her phone was dead.
An hour or two later, she was exhausted from crying, almost dehydrated. Her mother brought her a bowl of vegetable soup and called out to her softly. "Sabbie, get up and drink something, child."
Sabrina sat up. She forced a slight smile onto her face. "Mom, I'm fine."
"I know." Gloria comforted her. "Don't be sad. You still have me and Aino."
At the thought of Aino, Sabrina paused, then took out her phone to take a look at the time. Only then did she realize her phone had died. After charging her phone, she sat in the courtyard alone in a daze.
But she could not sit still. The moment she sat down, her mind was filled with thoughts of Sebastian. She could not help herself.
Looking at the flowers blooming in the courtyard, she felt as if there were drops of tears on the flowers. She even felt as if the color of the flowers were not as bright as they used to be.
If it was a year ago, when Sebastian had just captured her and brought her back to South City, she could still act aloof and resist him for a while, but now she had fallen for him, hook, line, and sinker. Her entire heart was his.
And now she had to leave him?
How was it possible? How could she? She could not do it!
She suddenly realized that all the men in the world were the same; they were all fond of the new and tired of the old. None of them could remain loyal till the end. Once they got the slightest opportunity and found a better woman, the ex-wife would turn into a dirty old rag.
But like she would in the past, now, could she be strong and leave him without an ounce of hesitation?
Sabrina immediately smiled at her. "No, Mom, trust m e. I'll be fine. I have you and Aino to consider. How can I let myself stay in such low spirits?"
Her mother smiled and comforted her. "Go, be careful o n the way. Once you pick her up, come back to my place."
"Okay." Sabrina nodded.
Taking her phone, she suddenly burst out laughing as she drove because she suddenly thought of Jane.
Not long ago, she was worried about Jane after she left; she even hoped Alex would find her and reunite with her.
It suddenly occurred to her that Jane had truly escaped her shackles because, when a woman with no status and no family background fell in love with a powerful and wildly influential man in South City, there could be no equality between them at all.
