Ye Shaohua bent her head to pick up the photographs scattered on the ground—these were the very images that had been printed from the forum, where her face was clearly recognizable.
Even when kneeling, she held her back as straight as a rod.
"Mom, I don’t care about those outsiders who don’t know me, who misunderstand and distrust me," Ye Shaohua said, holding the pictures, giving her mother a serious look, "but you’re my mom. Have you ever asked me if I really did those things?"
In the original storyline, the straw that broke the camel’s back for the real Ye Shaohua was actually the last phone call from her mother.
If even the people closest to you don’t believe in you, it’s hard not to crumble.
"I swear, every penny I’ve spent has been earned honestly and with dignity."
Seeing her like this, Ye Shaohua’s mother reached out to steady her shoulders and knelt beside her, tears streaming down her face, "Mom is just afraid you’re taking the wrong path. Some mistakes, once made, can never be undone; do you understand...?"
This was the first time Ji Yunchen had observed Ye Shaohua in broad daylight. Standing outside the partially-closed door of the ward, he peered through the gap and saw her kneeling in front of her mother.
The first thing he noticed were her clear, distinct eyes. Her upper body was dressed in a slightly oversized white shirt—though not new, it was clean and well-kept—paired with a simple pair of jeans.
There is a kind of pride ingrained in some people’s bones that can’t be hidden—Ye Shaohua was one of those people.
Even while kneeling, she remained cool and composed.
After considering Ye Shaohua’s mother’s reaction, Ji Yunchen did not push the door open, nor did he disturb the two. After seeing that the mother seemed to believe in Ye Shaohua, he quietly closed the door and waited outside the hospital’s main entrance.
"President Ji?" Assistant Ji turned in surprise at Ji Yunchen’s return and asked.
Ji Yunchen leaned against the car hood, silently lighting a cigarette.
The Assistant stood silently to one side and after some time, he caught sight of a familiar figure emerging from the hospital doors. His spirits lifted, and just as he was about to inform his boss, Ji was quick to react; he extinguished the cigarette with his eyes, then sat down in the back seat and slammed the car door shut with a "bang".
Ye Shaohua had been aware of the car at the hospital entrance since she came out—the vehicle had been tailing her quite discreetly, virtually undetectable by most people.
But not to Ye Shaohua.
When she got off the bus at the school gate, she did not head straight through the school entrance as the car owner might have predicted, but stood still and hailed the black vehicle. Assistant Ji’s face registered shock as she frowned, "Assistant Ji, do you need something?"
This was the first time Assistant Ji’s tailing had been discovered; he felt embarrassed for a moment before looking at Ye Shaohua with some amazement.
"No, it’s nothing, I just saw Miss Ye on the road and wondered if you might be interested... "
"Not interested," Ye Shaohua waved her hand, "let’s go."
Assistant Ji boldy glanced at the rearview mirror. In the mirror, the cigarette in Ji Yunchen’s hand was nearly burning his fingers.
Ye Shaohua paused at the side gate, watching the black car drive away before she turned and headed back to her dormitory.
On the way, she received a call from a company’s human resources department.
"Miss Ye, Yongteng has already passed you through the trial, when would you be available for an interview?" asked the voice on the phone.
"Yongteng?" Ye Shaohua narrowed her eyes slightly. The original body seemed to have cast a wide net, sending out her information everywhere. Yongteng Company was a few months back—wouldn’t they have gotten back to her by now?

On the other hand, after speaking with Ye Shaohua’s mother, Zhao Yijun didn’t return to her own apartment but instead went back to the Zhao family home.
The Zhao family’s business was mediocre—not bad but certainly not outstanding, especially when compared to the Yongteng Group.
Upon seeing Zhao Yijun’s return, her parents were overjoyed. "Daughter, you’re back. How was your day, how did you get along with Yizhou?" they asked eagerly.
At that question, Zhao Yijun didn’t respond, her expression looking rather troubled.
"What’s wrong?" Both parents noticed Zhao Yijun’s discomfiture.
Zhao Family’s old mansion.
It was already deep into the night. The old master Zhao had already gone to bed, not expecting that his son would come back at this time. A visit so late must mean something important.
Old Master Zhao, properly dressed, was helped down the stairs by a servant, "Coming to find me so late, what’s the matter?"
Having strived his whole life, it was unfortunate that as he aged, his heart was willing but his strength was spent, and he had to watch the Zhao family’s decline day by day. He had lost hope in his son years ago.
Unexpectedly, that disappointing son had given birth to an exceptional granddaughter whom he truly adored. After returning from abroad, she did not join their family company but was employed at a very capable company with a high salary by several businesses.
This was the only thing that made the old master proud lately.
He was still looking forward to Yijun restoring the former glory of the Zhaos.
"There is such a matter. That Ye Dongxiang, she has returned, and she brought that child from back then," Father Zhao glanced at the old master’s sinking expression before he continued: "It’s just that the child is a bit... hard to describe in a few words."
At this point, he seemed to find it difficult to proceed, opting not to continue speaking.
Mother Zhao took over, "What is there to hide on their behalf? Dad, you don’t know, but that woman’s daughter is just like her mother. She somehow found out about her own background and, on the pretense that she resembles Yijun, went so far as to seduce Yijun’s boyfriend! She’s been involved with several old wealthy men; her scandal is all over the internet now."
As she spoke, she took out her phone and showed the old master the news they’d found, "Now it’s known to everyone on the internet."
"Known to everyone?" The old master was momentarily dazed upon hearing about Ye Shaohua, but hearing Mother Zhao speak, he pressed his lips together.
"Our Yijun has been crying at home because of all this," Ye’s mother dabbed at her face, "And who knows what those mother and daughter are up to. They didn’t come back all those years ago and now they choose to stir up trouble just when Yijun returns. Everyone knows that Yijun is currently dating Yizhou. If I had known they were so heartless and ungrateful, I would never have saved her from the human trafficker back then..."
"Stop talking," Father Zhao’s expression changed when he heard the last sentence, and then he rebuked Mother Zhao sternly.
He then softened his tone and looked to the old master, "Dad, you know, no matter what, this person is still part of our Zhao Family. I just thought to mention it to you, whether we should acknowledge that child and take her back."
The couple played good cop, bad cop, laying out the situation without omission.
"Take her back? What take back? The spawn of that prostitute’s father is not needed by our Zhao Family!" The old master listened to Ye’s mother’s words, growing angrier as he did, until he seemed completely exasperated, covering his chest coughing, his eyes cold and cloudy: "To step through the doors of our Zhao home, that mother and daughter can forget about it even in the next lifetime!"
