She Was the Treasure All Along novel Chapter 90

A few doctors nearby chuckled.

Purity lifted her chin, smug and loud on purpose.“Some people can’t even get into a real medical school, and they still dare to come to the Shapiro estate and show off.”

She tilted her head toward Sapphire. “Remember this, Sapphire, Walsh medicine isn’t something some self-taught street trick can compete with.”

“Yes, Grandma,” Sapphire replied sweetly, eyes glittering with malice. “Some people probably can’t even manage basic diagnostics.”

The grandmother and granddaughter traded barbs like a duet. Byron awkwardly withdrew his hand, about to protest when a crisp “snap” sounded. He turned.

In the corner, Loyce had closed the case file and risen slowly to her feet.

Purity might have been mocking Byron on the surface, but the real target was obvious.

Under everyone’s gaze, Loyce walked straight toward Purity, each step landing like a tap on a tightened nerve.

“Dr. Walsh.” Loyce’s lips curved upward, but her eyes were ice. “Since you’re so confident…”

She pulled a pair of medical gloves from her pocket and slid them on, unhurried, precise. “Why don’t we make a bet?”

Purity narrowed her eyes. “A bet on what?”

“On who confirms the diagnosis first.” Loyce’s fingertip tapped the tabletop lightly.

Purity barked out a laugh. “Little girl, do you even know who you’re talking to?”

“Of course.” Loyce tilted her head, smiling innocently and mercilessly. “I’m talking to an old doctor who’s about to lose everything in front of everyone.”

The room erupted.

Loyce turned to Byron. “Want to team up with me?”

Byron stared into her clear eyes—steady, bright, strangely reassuring, like open water under starlight. His throat bobbed. Against his better judgment, he nodded. “Okay.”

Purity shook with rage, about to explode when Lucian’s cold voice cut through from above. “Begin.”

He was at the second-floor railing again, looking down like this was all entertainment. His gaze lingered on Loyce for a beat.
