She Was the Treasure All Along novel Chapter 83

Heath studied her chilled expression and muttered, “Sounds like the Walsh family is about to have a very bad time. And honestly… I’ve heard things about their hospital. They don’t deserve to call themselves healers.”

...

The day of the Shapiro family’s conference arrived quickly.

Because she lived nearby, Loyce didn’t rush. She woke early, boxed for a while in the gym, did Pilates, showered, then wandered into the library at Serenity Manor.

The library held books the Lonsdale family had collected from everywhere—many of them rare, valuable editions.

As Loyce walked through, she found the music section in chaos: volumes stacked on tables, torn pages, wadded-up paper balls scattered like someone had been at war with the notes.

She frowned. “These are original editions. How did this get so messy?”

A housemaid hurried over. “I’m sorry, Miss. Sybil’s been composing in here the last two days. She wouldn’t let us tidy this area.”

Loyce picked up a crumpled sheet and smoothed it open. She skimmed it, unimpressed, and dropped it into the wastebasket.

Her gaze drifted to the grand piano by the window. It had been brought in from the music room… which, apparently, had become Sybil’s bedroom. So Sybil had claimed the library as her studio.

Loyce looked around. The library sat on the east side of the estate. Three walls were lined with floor-to-ceiling wooden shelves packed with beautifully bound books. The fourth wall was a wide pane of glass overlooking a landscaped garden. The piano sat in front of it, framed by pale pink blossoms reaching in from the right; at night, the distant lake caught moonlight like spilled silver.

It was, undeniably, a perfect place to write music.

Loyce felt her own curiosity stir. She pulled a modern score from the shelf, sat at the piano, and lifted the lid. As her fingers touched the keys, she began to play—casual at first, following the printed notes.

Debussy’s “Clair de Lune” filled the room, light and drifting, like petals turning in the air outside.
