She Was the Treasure All Along novel Chapter 69

Back then, all of them had agreed Loyce was trying to kill Hamilton, so they’d driven her out. After that, without Loyce’s medicine, Hamilton soon couldn’t even get out of bed. His decline was fast and brutal.

Byron pressed his lips together, then spoke tentatively. “Mom… I think we might’ve been wrong about Loyce. If Hamilton was poisoned, it’s possible she used medicine that forced the toxins out through vomiting blood. It’s not impossible medically. We may have… truly misunderstood her.”

Adele stared down at her legs, whispering as if to herself. “Now that I think about it… Quiana’s massages never really helped. And after I stopped taking Loyce’s medicine, the pain got worse every day…”

Just then, the door opened. The housekeeper came in, set down the food container, then pulled a folded note from her pocket and handed it to Byron.

“This is the prescription Ms. Loyce wrote for Madam back when she still lived with the family,” the housekeeper said softly. “Mr. Byron… maybe you can have it filled at a pharmacy.”

Byron scanned the list. He recognized most of the drugs, and each one was rare, top-tier, obscenely expensive. Regular pharmacies wouldn’t carry them. Only CoreWell Pharmacy would.

Shock hit him so hard it felt like vertigo. Even with his VIP discount at CoreWell, he didn’t have the money to buy what was written here.

His voice shook. “You’re saying… Loyce prescribed all of this?”

The housekeeper nodded. “Yes. She used to have the medicine shipped regularly to Madam. After she left, the deliveries stopped.”

Adele frowned, suspicion flaring on instinct. “What’s wrong with it? Is it bad? Was Loyce poisoning me too?”

“No,” Byron said hoarsely. “These are premium drugs.” His lips trembled as he spoke. “All of this together… costs well over a hundred million.”
