She Was the Treasure All Along novel Chapter 57

Loyce had never been someone who loved crowds and spectacle. “I’m not used to that kind of life,” she admitted.

Sybil spoke gently, almost tactful. “But as part of this family, appearances matter. Grandpa, I think it would be best if I take Loyce shopping first. We need to find her clothes that are comfortable yet stylish for her various social encounters.”

The Lonsdales were the richest family in Yarmoria; etiquette wasn’t optional. Sybil wasn’t wrong. Still, Gordon clearly didn’t want to pressure Loyce. After a moment, he said, “If you want new clothes, Grandpa can give you some spending money. And if you’re happy as you are, that’s fine too.”

Loyce wasn’t careless, especially not in front of her real family. She understood that she couldn’t show up everywhere in biker jackets and workout gear.

“I do want to buy some new clothes,” she said.

Gordon’s eyes lit up. He pulled out a black card he’d clearly prepared in advance and pressed it into her palm.

“I'm not sure what a young lady would like,” he said, almost awkwardly. “So I… bought a department store. Take whatever you want.”

Sybil’s expression froze. A department store in Metropia’s luxury district wasn’t a gift—it was a fortune. Sybil had lived with the Lonsdales for years and received plenty of expensive presents, but nothing even close to this. So this was what it looked like when Gordon truly adored someone.

Jealousy and panic bloomed quietly in Sybil’s chest.

Loyce looked down at the card, then back up at Gordon. “Grandpa… I’m not exactly broke.”

Gordon insisted, his voice heavy with regret. “Let me make up for losing you all those years.”

Something softened in Loyce. “Alright,” she said quietly.

Sybil’s smile returned, sweet and composed. “Then come shopping with me when you’re free. I can help you pick things out. There’s also a charity gala next week. You can attend and mingle, make friends.”

Loyce nodded. “Okay.”

Sybil’s eyes flickered, calculation hiding behind the warmth. She was thinking that no matter how favored Loyce was at home, the moment she stepped into high society, everyone would see the rough edges she carried.

Gordon stood, ending the meeting. “Tomorrow is Forrest’s surgery. Everyone get some rest tonight.”

The others filed out.
