She Was the Treasure All Along novel Chapter 503

Yarden's expression turned murderous. The only person alive who knew the details of what happened back then was Cassie. Loyce had known Wade was coming to kill her all along and used the assassination attempt as a smokescreen to dig up the truth about her own disappearance.

Yarden knew Loyce must have realized Alicia's involvement, which meant she also knew he was the biggest accomplice.

"Keep your mouths shut about this," Yarden snapped at the men. "She isn't looking into Wade's trafficking ring. But Yavon County is about to be under a microscope. Pass the word down: high-level investigators are going to be swarming this place soon. Make sure there are zero loose ends. No mistakes."

The group descended the mountain, weighed down by anxiety. One of them muttered, "What the hell was Wade thinking? Why did he have his wife lure the heiress up there in the first place?"

Yarden didn't answer. The moment he reached the bottom of the mountain and got a signal, he dialed Alicia.

"You told me not to touch Loyce! Why did you hire someone to kill her behind my back?!" Yarden roared into the phone. "Do you have any idea the mess you've created? Loyce is a shark! She played us. We completely fell for her innocent act!"

Miles away, lounging in a high-end Metropia spa, Alicia sat up from the massage table, the cucumber slices sliding off her eyes. "What are you talking about?"

Yarden froze. He instantly realized Alicia had no idea about the hit.

"Loyce didn't come to Yavon County for fabric!" he rushed to explain. "She came to investigate her abduction. Cassie and I are the only ones who know the truth. Her husband, Wade, tried to kill Loyce behind my back to silence her! If he had succeeded, fine. But he failed. Loyce is probably halfway back to Metropia right now, and she took Cassie and half the neighbors with her. This is going to blow up in our faces!"

He took a frantic breath. "Ms. Seabrook, very few people know about Wade's history. I know the man. He only kills for a payday. You need to think long and hard about who has the money and influence to order a hit behind my back and screw it up this badly!"

Alicia's heart skipped a beat. She waved the spa attendants out of the room and lowered her voice. "If you hadn't been so sloppy back then and let her escape, forcing me to use a decoy, none of this would be happening! Do you think I didn't know you swapped the girls? If I wasn't so rushed to answer to my superiors, and if I hadn't had a momentary lapse of pity, I would have hunted Loyce down and buried her myself!"

Alicia inhaled sharply, regaining her icy composure. "What's done is done. Sweep your territory clean. Tell your people to lay low. Even if Loyce manages to pry something out of those hicks, as long as the authorities can't find hard evidence, it'll all blow over in time."
