Did she?
Lucian mentally replayed every interaction he'd had with Loyce, but he couldn't find any concrete evidence that she had strong feelings for him.
At best, she didn't actively reject his presence.
...
During Loyce's recovery in the hospital, Marnie's family had brought the police to make a scene on several occasions. However, they were blocked at the entrance of the VIP ward every single time, unable to even catch a glimpse of her.
Eventually, for reasons unknown to them, the police stopped showing up entirely, stating it was a civil dispute and telling them to settle it privately. This infuriated Marnie's parents so much that they took to social media to vent their outrage.
However, over the last two days, word got out that the Futura-Silicon leasing schedule had been moved up. The event was set to take place in a conference hall at one of Crown Dining's luxury hotels. Distracted by the massive financial opportunity, Marnie's family and the parents of the other students finally quieted down, pouring all their energy into preparing their business pitches.
Loyce hadn't exactly been resting during her time in the hospital. She had been collaborating with her graduate classmates from Kordell Medical University on a research project and running complex calculations. Using her brilliant mind kept her busy for days. On the day she was finally discharged from the military hospital annex, Sapphire Walsh sent her an urgent message from Blossom Hospital.
Vincent, the boy band member whose vocal cords had been burned, had been receiving treatment at a high-end private hospital. But the night before, that hospital released a public statement claiming that because Vincent had received improper first aid and was brought in too late, they couldn't save his voice despite their best efforts.
The news that Vincent's vocal cords were destroyed sent massive shockwaves through his fanbase. Soon after, several prominent influencers simultaneously posted different angles of photos from the concert stage.
The photos clearly showed Loyce performing emergency first aid on Vincent. They had been digitally enhanced to make her face crystal clear.
Sapphire's voice on the phone was sharp with anxiety. "I've seen this kind of dirty tactic a million times. Someone is intentionally targeting you, trying to direct those rabid fans to attack you. People are already doxxing your university online. They're demanding you pay for what you did."
Even though the Lonsdale family's PR team had immediately noticed Loyce's photos being circulated—many maliciously photoshopped with funeral wreaths and death threats—the sheer size of 'Apex's' thirty-million-strong fanbase was overwhelming. The synchronized cyberattack practically crashed Twitter, leaving the technical department scrambling to keep up.
It was safe to say Loyce had never been more famous.
Yet, she was far less panicked than Sapphire. In fact, her lips curled into a mocking smirk. "I know exactly how to handle this. Let the internet blow up for a little while longer."
The bigger the spectacle, the harder the backlash would hit.
