Byron suddenly spoke up. “Loyce, if you’d just swallow your pride and make peace with Mom, you can still come back. We will treat you like we used to.”
Quiana’s eyes reddened slightly. She was annoyed that Byron kept trying to bring Loyce back, but she still put on a gentle face. “Yeah, Loyce. I can even step aside on the engagement. I know you’ve always liked Keegan. You’ve just been stubborn about it. I’ll let you have him, as long as you stop making mistakes.”
Loyce let out a short, amused breath and looked at them like they were idiots. “Save it. I already told you, idiots belong with idiots. That’s how they last.”
Marshall shook with anger. “Loyce! The second you walk out that door, don’t you ever come back!”
Loyce turned and left without a hint of hesitation.
Adele hadn’t expected her to be that decisive. A sharp pain flared in her leg, and her grip tightened on Quiana’s hand. She sucked in a breath. “Ah…”
Byron hurried over to support her on the other side. “What is it, Mom?”
“My leg’s acting up again. Go get my medicine.” Adele gritted her teeth and snapped at the staff.
The maid looked troubled. “Ma’am… that was the last dose last night. There isn’t any left today.”
Adele snapped, “Then why didn’t you refill it earlier? Do you need me to ask before anyone does their job?”
The maid glanced toward the door. The biker girl was already long gone. “But… Miss Loyce was the one who always had it made for you. None of us know the formula.”
