She Was the Treasure All Along novel Chapter 278

For three mornings in a row, Loyce went for a run around the hilltop estate at the same time. Because of who she was supposed to be, the guards didn’t stop her—except at a few clearly restricted areas.

And in those three days, she memorized everything: the layout, the blind spots, the patrol routes, the shift changes.

On the fourth morning, she ran again, keeping her pace steady while her eyes quietly counted bodies and positions. She recognized every face now. When faces rotated, she knew the schedule.

But today something was off—not inside the villa, outside it. The watchtower that monitored incoming vehicles had a different rotation. The guard who should’ve been relieved in the morning was still up there past the changeover.

Loyce’s gaze brushed his and slid away as she kept running.

The man had spotted her instantly. His eyes were sharp, and the way his fingers rested near the rifle—clean, disciplined—was the posture of a trained sniper.

After confirming the day’s movement patterns, Loyce returned to her room, showered, changed, and arrived at the operating suite right on time.

It was empty.

She didn’t rush. She picked up a scalpel and stood by the window, turning the blade slowly, studying the distorted reflection of the buildings outside.

Just as the scheduled time was about to slip, Laurence arrived in a wheelchair, surrounded by men.

His medical advisor stepped forward, apologetic. “We were delayed. Can we begin?”

Loyce asked, “Did he take the meds on schedule?”

The advisor’s lips tightened. “He took the third pill this morning.”

Loyce’s expression didn’t change. She’d expected it. Frost Peppermint worked instantly; she knew Laurence wouldn’t swallow it the first day. His team would test it first, confirm it, then give it to him.

The advisor hesitated. “Will that affect anything?”

“Today is day three,” Loyce said. “We can operate.”

The advisor understood then: she’d deliberately set the timeline because she knew they’d stall to run lab work.

Between the test results and Laurence’s visible improvement, his posture turned almost humble. “My team will assist fully.”

Loyce’s tone stayed cool. “Have you reached the Godfather?”

Laurence said, “He will come after the operation.”

“Fine,” Loyce said. “But after surgery, I’ll need you to do something for me.”
