She Was the Treasure All Along novel Chapter 179

The old man’s cloudy eyes filled with a trace of pain. “And how did you and your daughter repay us? With schemes, slander, and every dirty trick in the book!”

“That’s enough!” Edgar suddenly erupted, grabbing Alicia’s wrist. “Haven’t you embarrassed us enough? Let’s go!”

He stopped at the doorway and looked back. “Macrostar Production is what it is today because of my hard work. Even if I agree to give it to Loyce, do you really think the company’s shareholders will let a slip of a girl run such a large enterprise?”

“Forrest, you know what those board members are like,” he continued. “I’ll let Loyce come to the company for a while, to get her bearings. Once I’m sure she can handle it, I’ll transfer the shares to her.”

With that, Edgar dragged his wife out of the room. Sybil, who had been standing just outside the door, was already drenched in tears. She sobbed, pleading through the door. “Grandpa! Grandpa, I don’t want to leave Serenity Manor! Please, don’t make me go!”

Gordon’s expression didn’t flicker. He had done more than enough for the branch family. No one was more important than his granddaughter.

...

Later, Loyce was sitting on her bedroom windowsill, a gentle breeze ruffling her hair as she sketched the lake outside. Hearing a noise, she glanced up and saw Leroy stumbling down the hall, bracing himself against the wall.

He was clearly drunk, his eyes glazed over. When his gaze met hers, he froze for a moment. On the windowsill, the girl’s long hair was like silk, and her stunning face seemed angelic in the fading light. A simple white dress cascaded down like moonlight, its hem adorned with hand-stitched embroidery that shimmered like pearls as she moved.

Leroy had always been too busy helping his sister oppose Loyce to ever truly look at her. Now, he found himself utterly captivated.

He was brought back to reality when Loyce set down her drawing pencil and asked casually, “I heard you haven’t been home for a few days. Where have you been?”
