She Was the Treasure All Along novel Chapter 157

After learning that Loyce was planning to buy her way into the finals, Sybil immediately contacted Yuna. She instructed her to spread the news everywhere, making sure it reached Yorick, so he would see that Loyce was nothing but a fraud.

Once that was done, Sybil headed to the restroom, where a plainly dressed girl was already waiting for her.

Sybil held out a credit card. “Alright, give me the sheet music.”

The girl hesitated. After a moment of internal struggle, she mustered her courage and looked up. “Ms. Seabrook, I’m sorry, but I’ve decided not to give you my composition. I’ve also entered the competition and made it to the second round. I want to try and win.”

Sybil let out a derisive laugh, her gentle expression twisting into something ugly. “You want to compete against me? Don’t forget, both of your parents work for my family’s company. It’s already hard enough for them to pay for your education, isn’t it? What do you think would happen if they suddenly lost their jobs? Who would pay for your piano hobby then?”

The girl’s face went white. “You’re threatening me.”

Sybil gracefully touched up her makeup in the mirror, glancing at the girl’s reflection. “Threatening you? It was your parents who came to my mother, bragging about your talent and your compositions. I only decided to buy it after I saw the score.”

“If I could have bought a piece from a more famous composer without the judges recognizing it, do you think I would have bothered with yours?” Sybil added with disdain. “Fine. If you don’t want to give it to me, then give me back the hundred-thousand-dollar deposit my mother paid your parents.”

All the color drained from the girl’s face. “They… they already took money?”

Sybil shrugged. “I heard your brother is getting married. Doesn’t he need about a hundred thousand for the gift for the bride’s family?”

Defeated, the girl trembled as she pulled the sheet music from her bag and handed it to Sybil. As she walked away, the girl collapsed onto the floor, sobbing uncontrollably.

Loyce was passing the restroom when she heard the crying. She stepped inside and saw the distraught girl. She walked over and offered her a handkerchief. “What’s wrong? Pre-competition nerves?”
