Chapter 141
“Who’s here to propose?” Loyce finally spoke, her first words of the day.
A woman nearby answered in surprise, “It’s the Vaughn family! Didn’t you know? They’re already in there talking with Marcella.”
Loyce was stunned. “They’ve got some nerve,” she muttered. “How dare they show their faces here again?”
When she reached the main hall, she found the small reception area crowded with Vaughns. They surrounded Marcella, a warm, bustling crowd trying to win her over.
Loyce strode in. “What’s all this? Did you bring all this because Keegan has come down with another incurable disease?”
“Now, now, don’t talk like that,” Marcella said, pulling Loyce to her side and patting her hand reassuringly. “The Vaughns are here to finalize the engagement. Don’t you remember, dear? You two have been promised to each other since you were children.”
Loyce raised an eyebrow. “But I seem to recall publicly calling off the engagement.”
Marcella blinked. “You called it off?”
One look at Marcella’s face and Loyce understood where the misunderstanding had come from.
“You didn’t think I was the one who got dumped, did you?” Loyce asked, unsure whether to laugh or cry. “Is that why you called them and asked them to come back?”
Marcella’s expression turned awkward.
Seizing the moment, Keegan Vaughn stepped forward, plastering a fawning smile on his face. “Loyce, I know we still have feelings for each other. You still love me. I messed up before, but please, forgive me. Can

Keegan’s parents hovered nearby, their faces etched with sycophantic
eagerness.
“It’s all my fault for not raising him right,” Savannah gushed. “From now on, you’ll be the one in charge of the Vaughn family. Please, let me make it up to you, Loyce.”
Loyce’s lips curved into a slight smile. “Marcella made a mistake, and for that, I apologize to you all. But I can’t marry him. There’s no future for Keegan and me.”
“Loyce, are you sure you’re not just putting on a brave face?” Marcella asked, her voice laced with concern. “Susan next door told me the news about you being publicly rejected was all over the media. She said you were heartbroken for a long time.”
Loyce pressed her fingers to her temple and chuckled. “So that’s what you’ve been worrying about these past two days?”
