She Was the Treasure All Along novel Chapter 121

By the time Alicia arrived, Sybil was on the verge of collapsing from tears. She had never faced such a setback in her life; everything had always gone her way. And yet, Loyce had been back for only a few days and had already pushed her to the brink of utter ruin.

Alicia wrapped a comforting arm around her daughter’s shoulders, her eyes dark. “I never imagined that bitch was so calculating. She set a trap for you without you even realizing it.”

Sybil trembled. “Morris is going to send us back to the Seabrook family because of this. Mom, what are we going to do?”

“This is your fault, too,” Alicia said, suppressing her anger. “What have I always taught you? If money can solve a problem, you don't get your own hands dirty. But what did you do? You snuck into her room to steal something!” She seethed. “How did I raise such an idiot? Which of my tactics haven't I taught you? Where did all that knowledge go?”

Frightened by her mother’s sternness and knowing she’d made a terrible mistake, Sybil hunched her shoulders and sobbed. “I’m going to be ruined. Loyce will release the video, I know she will!”

“Even if she doesn’t, do you think people don’t already know you plagiarized?” Alicia said grimly. “Every one of those women is as sharp as a tack. They flattered you because you had the Lonsdale family’s backing, but now that they sense trouble, they'll be the first to stomp you into the ground.”

“I’m finished,” Sybil whispered between sobs.

Alicia grabbed her by the shoulders, forcing her to look up. “Straighten your back. No daughter of mine is allowed to wallow in despair. We are not leaving the Lonsdale family, and you will marry into wealth and power!”

Seeing the fierce determination in her mother’s eyes, a flicker of hope ignited in Sybil. “What should I do?”

...

Loyce had just arrived home and was sitting down to dinner with the Lonsdales when a maid rushed in, breathless.

“Terrible news! Ms. Seabrook slit her wrists!”
