She Was the Treasure All Along novel Chapter 112

Sybil’s eyes widened slightly. Could Morris have invited Loyce?

Yuna, however, scoffed openly. “Give it a rest, Ms. Lonsdale. You might have shown some knack for appraisal at the auction, but the guests Mr. Lonsdale invites are world-class musicians. Are you one of them?”

Loyce smiled. “I could be.”

Yuna rolled her eyes dismissively. “I was classically trained myself, and I can tell you with certainty that aside from the mysterious pianist known as Mr. X, I’ve met or at least know of every top musician in the world. With all due respect, Ms. Lonsdale, I’ve never heard your name.”

Sybil felt a surge of confidence at her friend’s words. Mr. X lived abroad and was famously reclusive, known only by his music. Besides, the title ‘Mr.’ clearly indicated he was a man, so there was no connection to Loyce. She was willing to concede that Loyce might have some musical talent, but being a special guest? Impossible.

Sybil lowered her gaze, her voice dropping to a submissive whisper. “Loyce, today is Morris’s solo recital. I just want it to be perfect for him. Please.”

The surrounding glares intensified. Ms. Johnson frowned. “Ms. Lonsdale, Sybil is your cousin, but that doesn't give you the right to bully her. Do you know what kind of event this is? Don’t embarrass the Lonsdale family.”

Loyce nodded. “Fine.”

To everyone’s surprise, she stood up agreeably. Then, she added with a troubled expression, “But if I don’t sit here, I don’t have a seat.”

Sybil smiled gently. “Then you can take my seat, Loyce. I’ll just stand nearby.”

Yuna muttered contemptuously, “What? So Mr. Lonsdale didn’t even get her a proper ticket? She must have a standing-room pass in the back.”

Ms. Johnson chimed in. “Not all of the Lonsdale brothers are going to adore the sister who just showed up out of nowhere. She really can’t compare to Sybil.”

Another girl spoke up in Sybil’s defense, turning on Loyce. “Sybil, you’re a guest performer too. How can you stand in the back? And you,” she said, pointing at Loyce, “if you came in with a standing ticket, then go stand where you belong. You’re a Lonsdale, for heaven's sake. How could you stoop to stealing someone’s seat?”

Loyce had seen these tired bullying tactics before with Quiana. Back then, out of respect for her family, she had endured it, only for the abuse to escalate. She wouldn’t be so foolish as to tolerate it from Sybil.

Just as she was about to call Morris, a deep, languid voice cut through the tension. “Sorry, I’m late.”
