Her pretty face blushed slightly as she tried to calm her emotions. In a soft voice, she asked, “Mr. Cross, since you've ordered the alliance to advance toward the headquarters starting tomorrow, how confident are you in winning this decisive battle?”
Nathan smiled and replied, “I'm not too confident. Probably only about 50% sure.”
Hepburn nodded. A fifty percent chance was already quite significant. After all, they were facing the Patriarch of vampires, Herod, known as the world's strongest being. Hepburn curiously asked, “I wonder if you have any tactical plans you could share with me in advance.”
Nathan turned to look at Hepburn and said calmly, “There's no need for any tactics or plans. My approach is simple and crude. After arriving in the Eternal Darkness region, all of you will lead the alliance and standby while I personally duel with Herod.”
“If I defeat Herod, you all shall lead the alliance to launch a full-scale attack, wiping out the vampires in one fell swoop; if I can't defeat Herod and die in the duel, then you all should act accordingly.”
What?
Hepburn's eyes widened in surprise and anxiety. “Commander Cross, how could we possibly let you face Herod in a duel all by yourself-”
Nathan interrupted, “There's nothing wrong with that. This is the best solution.”
“If I can slay Herod, then the disaster of the vampires can be declared over with just one final assault from the alliance; if I fail, I have done my best, and I must entrust the task to all of you from then on.”
Nathan has killed our emissary, Macauley, and he is now leading the human alliance army toward us. It seems Nathan is going all out, ready for a duel.”
Upon hearing this, Herod was momentarily taken aback. A cold smile appeared on his face as he put down his knife and fork. Picking up the white napkin from the table, he wiped the bloodstain from the corner of his mouth and sneered. “Heh, he actually came to die willingly. Well, then. I'll grant him his wish.”
After saying that, he instructed Max and the others, “We have guests coming over. You all should get ready and join me in welcoming them shortly.”
Max and several vampire princes said in unison, “Yes, Patriarch Herod.”
