With Lucas' assurance, Nathan didn't stay in the West for long. Along with all his men, he left the next day.
After Nathan left, Lucas was infuriated.
He wasn't angry at Nathan, though. After all, Nathan and he were like brothers. Besides, Nathan was the Chief Military Governor, and he dared not to oppose Nathan.
However, he wasn't going to tolerate the person who complained to Nathan and leaked the information about his surprise attack.
He instructed his subordinates to find the whistleblower.
Since the West was Lucas' territory, nothing could be hidden from him.
Soon, he was told that Thomas was the one who told Nathan about his plan.
Lucas' face turned gloomy. “I knew it! Have him come see me at once.”
“Yes, Sir!”
Right then, Thomas was in the midst of training. His heart skipped a beat when he was told that the commander-in-chief wanted to see him. Sh*t! I've been exposed.'.
Without a choice, he went to see Lucas.
Knock! Knock!
Although the door was opened, Thomas courteously knocked on Lucas's door to his office. He then held up a hand in salutation. “Sir!”
At that moment, Lucas seemed to be busy with this documentation work. He ignored Thomas' presence and kept his head lowered.
Thomas couldn't help but feel awkward standing there on his own. Two minutes later, Lucas raised his gaze toward Thomas and said, “Come in.”
Thomas stayed on his knees and kept quiet. After all, he was the whistleblower who leaked the information about Lucas' plan. It was only natural that Lucas was pissed at him.
However, he was a man of military background. No matter what, he wouldn't want to be discharged under such circumstances.
Hence, he begged, “General Ziegler, I only had the greater good in mind. I wasn't acting upon my self-interests. Please, I beg of you. Don't discharge me. Please give me a second chance.”
“Okay. Since you're begging me, I'll give you another chance.” After that, he commanded, “Go and gather up all the National Guards, Ten Tigers of the West, and Fearless Eighteen. Have them prepared for battle at once.”
What? Thomas widened his eyes in bafflement. “General Ziegler, you're still going to battle with Volk? I heard Chief Military Governor saying that he's having a peace talk with President Stryker, no? Didn't you promise Chief Military Governor that you won't go into battle? What's going on now?” “It seems like you're very well-informed,” Lucas said coldly. “Yes, I did promise Nathan that I won't launch an attack of a huge magnitude like last night. However, I'm sure a minor operation is okay, don't you think so? I plan to lead the National Guards, Ten Tigers of the West, and Fearless Eighteen personally. We’re going to set off lightly armed and infiltrate Volk. After that, we're going to assassinate their God of War, Isaiah.”
Upon hearing that, Thomas anxiously said, “Please don't! That's too risky. Besides, Chief Military Governor is already going to have a peace talk with President Stryker.”
Lucas scoffed and said, “In Volk, President Stryker has little influence compared to Isaiah. Isaiah is their main advocate for war! If we don't kill him first, President Stryker can't achieve peace even if he wanted to. The reason I'm killing Isaiah is so that we can eradicate their war movement. Once Isaiah is dead, President Stryker will have total control of Volk. Hence, he can then act upon the peace talk with Chief Military Governor. Now, am I not doing Chief Military Governor a favor?”
